Commercial Description:
Pleasantly malty with a subtle toffee nose. Some coffee notes. A superb interpretation of the Dubbel style.

Bottled. Dark brown. Lively with yeast sediment and a very rich head. Estery aroma, apricot, or melon, or chewing gum or somewhere there around, The flavour is sweet and very clean. In fact there is just one lingering , fruity/estery flavour that lingers on all the way from the nose and into the finish. This beer is like playing a song on the piano on just one key. The first few seconds are nice, but after a couple of minutes it starts getting annoying.

Pours a nice murky brown typical of a dubbel. That’s pretty much where the similarities end. Taste is sweet with a string almost overpowering taste of banana and some minor afterhints of caramel. I have one more of these left and plan on drinking it in the near future.

When I opened this it gushed allll over the place, which scared me until I read that other ratings have said this beer is super-carbonated. I got most of it into the glass, though, and when it subsided, I had a nice-looking beer: Very dark, muddy brown with a thick, creamy, off-white head. There is a lot to be said about this beer. Has the trademark Belgian yeast aroma with sweetness, fruit, and banana. The first sip of this tasted horribly of astringent alcohol grossness, but I managed to get past that, and it turned out to be a pretty good brew. Initial flavor is sweet and sour, with a little hint of toffee, followed by an extremely grassy finish along with the tiniest little hint of coffee, like the commercial description suggests. Very carbonated, yes, but I don’t think this is overdone; if people are rating Unibroues this much higher than this beer on the basis of overcarbonation, then there is some seriously unfair bias going on. In any event, this feels heavily carbonated but quite creamy. Finish leaves the mouth feeling a little dry and cottony. I admit, this is an odd style; many Belgians feel clean to me, but this beer just screams "dirty." I am surprised at how low this is rated. Not my favorite beer, but this deserves more praise than it is getting; it is quite drinkable and quite different from the norm, which I like.

Brown color with big head. Big malty flavor offset with a nice amount of hops creating a well balanced drink. I’d like a bit more spiciness, but oh well.

Nice color, very foamy head. A nice light taste with a sweet aftertaste, but I was a little tired of it by the time I finished the beer. A good ale, but not a great one.

Cloudy dark brown. Foamy off-white head. Very fruity aroma, some hops. Flavor is fruity full of yeast and a little too sweet for my taste.
