glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 26, 2008 Dark brown almost black with medium head. Love the slightly smokey and coffee taste while it stays very refreshing and drinkable. Slight metallic bitterness in the finish is the main drawback. Just enough sweetness. It isn’t going to blow you away, but I’m a big fan. Every beer doesn’t have to be so big as too blow your mind. Well made and enjoyable.
darn1207 (335), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2008 bottle. fizzy carbonation on the pour (probably a bad sign). dark brown with a fizzy tan head. aroma is sweet malts and a touch of roasty chocolate. taste is light caramel malt followed up with a bit of smokiness. a little thin and a bit of an acidic aftertaste. don’t have a lot of schwarzbier experience to compare it to at this point. HarryFlashman (419), Chatham, Kent, England Oct 5, 2008 I was rather surprised by the appearance and taste of this. Almost black and the taste is very stouty. Fairly bitter and dry and hints of coffe. Plenty of taste for such a low strength. Ober (401), Best, Netherlands Oct 4, 2008 On draught at Plachetnice Plzen. An almost black colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of caramel and a little bit chocolate, there are malts and fruits. The taste of little coffee, dry and fruits like raisins. There´s not much aroma, but hints of roasted malt and dark fruit. The flavor is roasted malt, caramel sweetness and dried fruit. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 25, 2008 From Bottleworks in Seattle, WA--Poured a dark black-brown body with amber hues shining in the light. Small soft tan head. Bold nose of coffee, nutty chalkiness, and chocolate. Crisp, clean mildly roasty malty, nutty. Delicious. Carbonic mouthfeel. Sugary yet mild finish.
