It’s brown-red with a creamy head and the aroma has notes of caramel, dark cookies and hazel-nuts. The flavour is sweet with notes of caramel, light cocoa, citrus, nuts and light chocolate, and the finish is dry. Quite charming.

Test vom 23.1.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,11,12,13,11,12 - 11,95

Bottle… February in Franconia (2011)… Clear, dark copper lager with a large, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Fantastic retention and lacing. The mashy, grainy aroma offers notes of mocha and nuts alongside strong suggestions of caramel and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Well-balanced. Grainy, warm mash flavor – light caramel and chocolate malts and toasted barley. Finishes crisp and hearty yet refreshing. Tastes like an obscure region of Germany that I hope-against-hope to visit one day. Thanks go out to erlangernick and Koelschtrinker for making this this month of Franconian lagers possible!

500ml bottle from Pigs Ear BF 2010 drunk at home. Deep russet colour with thick ivory head. Decent rich darkish and fruity malts. Very decent beer with good drinkability and very decent fruit throughout. Went well with the sausages and roast veg I had for dinner. Some decent toffee. Decent

Bottled (BZ, BB 10/2010)
Deep chestnut brown color, good beige creamy head. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate and grassy hops. Medium-bodied, soft palate. Cocoa powder, grassy mild hops and cardboard in the flavor. Short finish. Interesting, different festbier, although I am not a big fan of this kind of grassy hoppyness.

Bottle: Deep amber coloured, big fluffy off-white head - slowly collapsing; moderate sweetish-fruity and dark-malty nose; drier bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; becomes drier and more chocolatey towards the malty-toasty finish. Fine franconian stuff......
Earlier Rating: 9/3/2006 Total Score: 3.3
Bottle: Dark amber coloured, huge, fluffy but firm off-white head; complex nose: sweet malt, roasted malt, milk-coffee and aromatic hops; sweetish-bitter flavour; burnt malt in the finish, herbal (almost chocolatey...) hoppiness in the aftertaste. A fat franconian brew....
Earlier Rating: 6/27/2009 Total Score: 3.4
Bottle:Clear, golden, mid-sized to big creamy head, that very slowly diminishes; bisquity-grainy nose with a shy touch of noble hops; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light soft body; delicate, but lingering sweetish-hoppy finish. Good, solid franconian quality.......

(bottle) Clear, dark brown colour with a big and beige foamy head. Toast-malty aroma with caramel, burnt element, vanilla and shades of aroma hops in the background. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malty and bready taste with caramel and notes of chocolate towards the sweet and roast-bitter finish with a light but present hops character. Classy Dunkel. 31.III.10

(bottle) Clear, golden colour with a big and fluffy foamy white head. Sweet and slightly draffy malty aroma with notes of biscuits, traces of barnyard and a delicately herbal and slightly citrus-fruity hoppy touch. Light-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, crispy on the tongue. Solid malty base with a rural tinge of barnyard and well-balanced hoppy accents; almost dry, malty and moderately hoppy finish with a very subtle fruity touch (24.VI.09).
