3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6150) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 1, 2011
My Bottom Line :
Herbal, spicy hops surround bready malts and their subtle toastiness before taking this rustic lager into surprisingly bitter territories.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam tops the krug, which later reveals an amber-hued brew.
-The aroma is not bold enough to match the poignant hop finish.
-Light caramelization is not necessarily harmonious with the hop signature.
-An earthy touch appears in the beautifully hoppy finish.
On tap at the brewery gasthof.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Koelschtrinker (6566) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAY 18, 2011
Wenig herber Antrunk, absolut mild. 8/7/8/8//8

Clear golden with a tiny white head. Malty aroma with hints of hops. Flavour had malt, grassy hops and straw. Finished somewhat dry and bitter.

Ceramic mug. Airy head. Orangey-brown colour. Minerally, hoppy nose. Hoppy and minerally but with more dark malt than comparably hoppy Franconian country beers. Pretty refreshing and the caramelly, earthy dark malts add an element of warmth.

Draft @ brewpub. Copper color beer with rocky beige head. Aroma is mellow Frankenbier with lots of bready malt. Palate is clean, dry, smooth and quaffable. Low carbo. Fruity entry in the flavors and an excellent brisk hoppy finish. Tastes much hoppier than it smells. Bright and earthy, bready and hoppy all at same time. Incredibly balanced and delicious. Goes down so easy!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6227) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 5, 2008
Mug at the brewery in Giesfeld. Nose of sweet wort, caramel, maple and grains. Flavor is bright and fresh, tastes like unfermented wort and honey with a little grassy hop note. Fresh, wet, green, etc... at the same time, though, it resembles honey, wet malt and dry wood. Good beer with a nice medium bitterness level.
