660ml bottle (dated 18-05-2012) served in a snifter around 8 degrees: This a beer is actually a cocoa stout I came across at the end of the summer. It’s brewed in Blainville, a town on the northern border of Montreal by Brasserie Kruhnen, which I had never heard of before. I couldn’t find much information on the web about them, except they seem to brew just one other beer in addition to this one. Let’s get to it. Pours a pitch black, letting rise a fluffy hazel head offering good retention and great lacing. So far, so good. The nose is very stimulating with dominant notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, toffey and spice. Some alcohol gets through but its not a bad point if you ask me. The floral hops give the nose lots of freshness and kicks it up a knotch (not that it needs ot that much anyway). On the tongue, you get at first toasted/burnt malts with some dark chocolate bitterness. The stout is sharp and round and delivers a long burnt and nutty finish. This brew is like a combination of a stout, a strong red ale and a black IPA. Normally, I wouldn’t appreciate not really being able to identify the beer, but this one still manages to work even if it streches far to being a simple stout. Like it says the end justifies the means, so I think the brewers did a pretty good job with this one. Cheers!

Corps faible a moyen, carbonation moyenne.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A clear super dark reddish brown stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, smooth chocolate and licorice, fruity and pleasant. In mouth, a superb sweet milkey chocolate with licorice, coffee, alcohol warmth, very nice.

(Rating #4700)

pours dark brown with a decent light beige head, little retention. bretts (!) and sweet chocolate notes, medium roastiness. average carbonation, light body - watery mouthfeel, some sweetness along with some grassy-herbal notes, for a short finish. when infection is the best quality to the beer...

660 ml bottle purchased at La Saucisserie BAM (La Saucisserie Ste-Rose) in Laval (Quebec) on November 20, 2012. Black, no head. Barley aroma with chocolate and licorice, a little dry. Licorice taste very dry and sour berries, hints of tobacco, burnt aftertaste! I tried to like it!
