2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 drpimento (1695) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 14, 2009
Got this bottle at Sam’s in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Poured with a large tan head of fine bubbles and good lacing. Color is dark brown with copper highlights. Aroma is dark malt, roasty, tea, nuts, and a little of paper. Body is strange because it has fine carbonation and a soft feel but at the same time a bit thin. Flavor’s like the aroma. Finish is ok. Not bad.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 gorditoabd (465) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 14, 2009
Rating # 80.
Bottle, pours like black coffee, with a good bit of tan, short-lived head. Aroma is sickly sweet caramel and some note of hops and malt. Nothing to write home about. Initial taste is a bit of a watery mess... after about 2 seconds anise and some bittersweet brown sugar taste kicks in. Otherwise, nothing special. But then, with the minimal ABV I didn’t expect much. Do people in the Czech Republic hate to get a buzz? I’ll probably never be able to answer this question. Would I try this beer again? I have that answer... no, unless it became the last option...

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2009 Bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. Pours a deep coffee brown with a creamy beige head. Nose of roasted malts, light coffee, some metallic notes. Flavor is very similar to the nose containing some metallic’s and roasted malts, fairly dry and crisp finish.

Bottle… Pours black with ruby highlights and a large, fluffy, off-white head. Fantastic, tight, creamy retention. Smoky, espresso and chocolate aroma. Light-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and minimal carbonation. The flavor is a touch sweet, acrid and smoky. Crisp, very lightly bitter finish.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 yemenmocha (657) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - MAY 15, 2009
Pours cola colored - medium brown and translucent, with light tan head. Nose is roasty but rather tame. Light coffee taste, very drinkable, and a rather inoffensive beer. Could be a nice gateway beer for people apprehensive about dark beers.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mkel07 (1557) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAY 11, 2009
330ml bottle. Poured a rich deep black in colour with a thin to medium tan head. Bubbles cling to the glass from the top to the bottom. Aroma of smoked almonds with a smoke flavour that was thin and bitter. Thin texture and medium body with a taste that lingers.

Bottle from The Beer Authority, poured a dark, rich mahogany color with a thin head. Nice lacing and a nutty malt flavor. Effervescent on the palate, this is an excellent scharz.
