Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Bottle, UK import, unrecalled source, historic rating. Poured dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of roast malt, with hint of chocolate. Moderate to heavy sweetness, light bitterness. Light body, rather watery texture, soft carbonation. Has a dry finish. It’s ok but not great.

Pours black from the can with a foamy head. Aroma is strongly of roasted malts. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, nutty. Light bodied. Smooth. Relatively low carbonation. Don’t drink too slowly or it may flatten on you. Otherwise a quite pleasant diversion.

Faint toast aroma. Light caramel and toast taste. Really bubbily and nice but watery. Nice sipping beer but definitely better Czech beers out there.

0,5l can. Dark brown colour with quickly disappearing brown head. Aroma: toast, coffee a bit smokey. Taste: Short sweet first taste than moderate bitter moutfeel. Roasted bread and a little bit of coffee. Quite unusual but good. Light body with medium carbonation. Short dry and a little bit watery finish. Surprisingly drinkable.

Aroma eher marginal vorhanden.

Pours dark ruby, almost black color with medium, slightly off-white head. Smell is your typical lager with additional notes of caramel and smoke. Thin body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste is sour/bitter. Aroma is mostly malts, yeast and caramel with somewhat smoked aftertaste. It is nice, but water pretty much overwhelmed the aroma. Overall, water killed the beer here. Shame, it has the potential to shine, but as it is it nothing more then mediocre.
