Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Dark brown almost black with medium head. Love the slightly smokey and coffee taste while it stays very refreshing and drinkable. Slight metallic bitterness in the finish is the main drawback. Just enough sweetness. It isn’t going to blow you away, but I’m a big fan. Every beer doesn’t have to be so big as too blow your mind. Well made and enjoyable.

On tap, poured deep brown with a finger thick off white head. Nose was medicine sweet and malt. The flavor was a bit smokey, but also with the medicinal malt sweetness. Sweet, smooth finish was the highlight of this beer.

Pours a nice brown colour with a slight off white head that fades instantly. Light coffee aroma and roasted malt. Flavour was light but nutty. Quite drinkable.

Meatmallet (126) - Salem, Illinois, USA - APR 19, 2008
Pours dark with a good head that didnt stay around long vert little lacing. Smell is not very powerful but pleasant. Has a carmel and coffee aroma. Taste was very mild and had a watered down feel with light carbonation. Roasted coffee and malt flavors were good, I just wish a bit stronger. I think this is a good beer but it is one you need to be in the mood for.

Pours a dark espresso with really light head that ends of being tan lacing. Aroma is a yeasty smelling malt. Flavor is a watery coffee with roasted malts and nuts. Body is light with tingly carbonation.

Deep black color, mild espresso colored head. Flavor is mild dark malt, a bit sweet. Some dry spice toward the end. Good amount of flavor in this one. Light bodied and somewhat fizzy. Well made black beer.

500 ml, "born by" date is 25 07 2007. Small but lasting, creamy head atop the nearly opaque mahogany body. Aroma is char and smoky, spicy molasses. Flavor is at first cardboard, chalk, and molasses, then later some coffee and cola steeped in peppery herbs. Some char, cocoa, and dried wood are also in the flavor mix throughout. Some sweetened molasses show up in the aftertaste. Lots of flavors in this one. Medium body has a watery mouthfeel, but is astringent and chalky-dry on the tongue. Pretty much to the style description.

makes sense while it is such a widely exported Czech beverage. one of the easiest dark beers to drink. coming from the Saaz region does not hurt. lots of head, and perhaps too many bubbles. very light, almost thin. no aftertaste. very few hops. cool bottle.
