Pours with a beige, three-finger head that fades quickly and leaves some lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Deep mahogany color. Nose is roasted chocolate/coffee. Flavor is roasted coffee, clean finish, good session beer. $2.70 for a 500ml bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 I was really impressed by this beer. From the label, I thought this would be some bitter imperial BS from the baltics, but I was pleasantly content on the finish. Barely any smell. Big black tarry palate with no terrible bitter offense. Chewy burned campfire. Odd medium flat creamy carbonation that is unique and desireable. Keeps you interested and comming back for sips repeatidly. Nice well behaved finish like any good dark beer without any implications of bitter linger that is so common with big black beers. Flat tar coated roofs. Comes on more like a higher alky brew than is listed here. On par with Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager, one of the better tasting schwartz I’ve had. Certainly yards ahead of Rogue Black Brutal 2007, Sammy’s Black Lager and Köstritzer Schwarzbier.

Pours dark reddish brown with a creamy beige head. Flavor is roasted and malts. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than what I prefer. Decent, but not great.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 maniac (3474) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 28, 2007
Clear dark brown body with ruby highlights and a large frothy tan head. Huge roasty aroma with some toasty munich hints. Sweet roasted malt flavor with light bittering in the end. Light body with a smooth clean lager finish.

500ml bottle. Woody, roasted coffee aroma. Dark in colour with an off white head that soon disappears. Sweet toffee flavour with some woody and nutty notes. Very malty finish.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - OCT 18, 2007
’Lighter’ black pour with a light tan head of moderate to small size, some lacing and retention. Aroma is light chocolate with grain and bread. Flavor is an interesting but not that great mix of the 3. Lacks finesse and complexity. Very light for the style, somewhat watery. Not flatout bad, but far from great.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Allen (2394) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 15, 2007
Bottled 50cl. It pours a very dark nut brown beer with a beautiful beige head. The nose is of hay, chocolate, milk, coffee and caramel - A rather good aroma. The taste is nice with good bready elements, chocolate and molasses. Sweet. Enjoyable, but with a rather weak mouthfeel. Slightly metallic and watery. The finish is surprisingly good; dry with hints of chocolate and herbs. An above average Dunkel. A beer I will definately purchase again!
