Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

500ml bottle, best before November 2007, drank in June 2007. I chose this beer (from my stash) because I had some Chilli Edam cheese my wife had bought for my Belgian beer night and I wouldn’t let her serve it because it would have ruined the tastebuds of everyone. I wanted to eat the cheese with a beer that would complement each other. My review is for the beer before I started eating the chilli cheese, although I enjoyed it more washing down the biscuits and cheese. Poured into my Gordon’s Finest Gold thistle glass, it looks great. Dark with an off white head. The aroma is of sweet malts, the taste is weak and thin, so too the mouthfeel. I thought this might be disappointing, I wasn’t mistaken, it will help wash down the chilli cheese.

0.5 l can. Pours black with long lasting beige head that remains for long. Fruits, malts and some coffee in aroma. Earth, malts, coffee and some strange notes in taste. Short finish, watery texture, soft carbonation. That weird taste that I cant identify ruins it all for me. Not good.

Can shared by Dan tonight, thanks! Dark brown with a smallish off white head. Caramel and light chocolate notes against some bready earthy hops. Not horrible.

(Kiev 2016) Sampled draft @ one of Pivnaya №1 establishments. Dark brown blackish, little mocha bubbles. Nose is iron, herbal, rotting licorice & moldy. Taste is dull iron, herbal, rotting leaves, spoiled rotting herbal, and metallic. Overly industrial, not good, I suspect the keg also not being in the best shape.

Bottle, UK import, unrecalled source, historic rating. Poured dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of roast malt, with hint of chocolate. Moderate to heavy sweetness, light bitterness. Light body, rather watery texture, soft carbonation. Has a dry finish. It’s ok but not great.
