3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 harrisoni (9614) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2008
On tap at Plachetnice, Plzen. Gold, lasting beige head. It’s a clean tasting ok lager, bit of weird fish paste flavour. It’s a pretty good lager, some hop on finish.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Marko (2977) - Split, CROATIA - JUL 5, 2008
On tap at Plachetnice, Plzen. Nice clear orange body, thick white head that went away slowly. A nice hoppy nose with some malty notes. Light sweet honeyish taste, some mineral water character. A bit bitterish and completely unremarkable.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 KnutAlbert (4386) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 4, 2008
Canned.
Golden beer.
Malty, full body, fine hoppy zing, too. A bit heavy, perhaps, but a decent beer.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 coldbrewky (1120) - Saugerties, New York, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Draft, Cand and bottle: The golden color they speak of is distnctive and the malt body is a bit larger than that of their regular 12 degree but other than the packaging, I could not distinguish andything separate from the normal Kursovice line of products.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tlind2 (815) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 28, 2008
500 ml can. Pours a clear amber color with a decent white head. Slight malty aroma. Taste is medium-to-full-bodied, with sweet malt flavor and notable bitterness in the finish. A drinkable pilsner.
As a side note, I’ve also tasted this beer off tap in Prague a few years back, and it seemed slightly better then.

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. -------- />
How: Tap late-night (when all the good beer bars are closed) at some very cool pub in Prague but with a sucky beer selection. Me ignorant tourist didn’t realize what I was ordering.
The look: Clear golden blonde body with a small white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: As above but watered down and too clean.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - JAN 16, 2008
Clear medium orange hue with a fluffy, white head. Pure malt aroma with some cookies, pepper and flowers. Behind that, some very light toffee and lemongrass. Lightly sweet and lightly bitter at first, with floral and bready flavours. The finish is more distinctly bitter with elements of pepper and lemon zest. Medium-light bodied with a really creamy (for the size) texture and soft, but lively, carbonation. 50cl can.
