500ml bottle in Malawi. This is not very much different from Carlsberg Green, the only other lager one can get in Malawi. Both are brewed by Carlsberg, but this one is marketed toward locals ("Mowa wathu wathu" is the slogan, which means "Our beer"). A thoroughly average lager; not bad for the heat of Africa. Pale yellow with nice head; grain and slight sweetness. Watery. Cheaper and bigger than Carlsberg Green... if you’re in Malawi, go for it.

Pale golden beer. While this has a hint of carboard, you feel there is a certain Carlsberg standard to this, light malt bopdy and some hoppy bitterness. Far better than your average AFrican lager.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours very pale yellow. Aroma lots of grain on the aroma, some off notes of fermentation. Taste is sweet, grainy. Palate is watery. At least it doesnt stink of skunk. Decent for what it is I guess, I was expecting something much worse.

I think I’d agree with Durhambeer. I am having a bottle in Malawi and find it drinkable, nothing special. Light color, slightly grainy sweet. I can’t smell so may be generous in giving it a 5 rather than leave it at the default. Purchased at a grocery store for about 57 cents U.S., plus 15 cents deposit which I will forfeit, so for the price... it is much less than what I pay at the hotel bar! It would be good as a thirst-quencher in hot weather - a lawnmower beer. I think I’d rather drink this than most huge U.S. beers (Bud, Miller, etc) but I have lived in Africa for a year now and am going through ale withdrawals... As durhambeer pointed out - cheaper than Carlsberg green but in a bigger bottle (Kuche Kuche is also brewed by the Malawi Carlsberg brewery). Does not list ingredients but I assume it has a healthy dose of added sugars.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Clear pale golden body with a white head. Not much aroma, light grainy. Not much flavor either, light grain, malt, hint of fruit and low bitterness. No real faults, just rather boring. Easy come, easy go.

1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle, courtesy of Knut Albert. It’s a clear, pale golden beer topped by a small, white head. The aroma is on the malty side, with some fruitiness and a touch of cardboard. Rather thin on the palate, almost watery, with low carbonation. A faint touch of bitterness in the flavour, with pale malts and some notes of cardboard. Mostly fruity finish. Drinkable indeed, but really boring. 121026

Smells like corn starch and alcohol, maybe some dried bush weeds in there too. Has some head if poured aggressively but it disappears quick. Colour is a lighter shade of yellow, not too appetizing looking if you ask me. Flavour is closer to a light beer than a real beer: some breadiness, some very faint malts and hops, but this is a chugging beer. At 3.7% alcohol you can do exactly that and not feeling anything, too! Malawi has better beers than this thanks to the Carlsberg brewery there, and aside from the novelty factor of Malawi’s one and only personally Malawian beer, it isn’t much to get excited about.
