A brown, Belgian-style abbey ale. Caramel, banana, biscuit and fruity-aromas contribute to the balance of this strong, complex beer. A sweet, bready and caramel flavor follows with a silky, creamy finish.

12oz bottle, brown sugar, dark fruits. Sweet. Not sure this is a Dubbel. Still not horrible, but nothing to write home about.

Murky, brown/ black color with a quickly disappearing tan/ beige head. Aroma is phenolic and somoe very slight burn notes. Flavor is phenolic/ anisee. Very similar to trois pistoles and the like. Palate is quite smooth and easy drinking. Warming, great but not exceptional.

Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Dark brown color, low head, and interesting aroma of sweet malt, banana, even ripe mellon. Taste is very different, and I would not have even thought "Belgian ale" without first knowing. Taste is moderately sweet malt with flavors of plum, banana, raising and a little spice. Finishes subtly with all these flavors. Very interesting brew, and one more reason I think this brewer is one of the most interesting brewers in the world.

Great Belgian dubbel. Aroma of clove and banana, some floral hops. Pours reddish brown with some lacing ad head. Taste bitter and sweet in good balance. Some booze in finish as well. This one really grows on me. Tap at brewpub.

Pretty generic amrican dubbel. Sweet, yeast-driven. Not complex but rather messy.

Draft. Aroma has notes of dark dried fruits, tobacco, black licorice, banana and apples. Very dark brown hue with a small off-white head that left very little lace. Flavor is very very sweet and cloying. Palate is very full bodied and oily with average carbonation. Overall a very sweet Dubbel and a little too hot.

Bottle 2011 thanks to mikem409: Poured a deep brown color with a tan colored head. Aroma is strong dark fruit with hints of chocolate and caramel. Taste is sweet caramel malt with shards of dark fruit and carbonation, soothing cream finish. The highlight of my 2012 Turkey Day!

12 oz. bottle, sent from northernbrews (thanks a lot, Jeff), pours a deep dark, dark mahogany / brown with a small beige head. Nose is full of candied sugar and Belgian yeast - smells authentic enough. Flavour reveals the same candied sugar notes, with lots of Belgian yeast, caramel and a bit of banana. Quite lively carbonation, which is noticeable right at the beginning of the first sip. Not very complex - quite simplistic, with the candied sugar dominating, though it is by no means cloying. Decent Americanized dubbel.
