COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American example of an English style of beer made for the Russian Royals. This ale deep black in color, finally released after being aged for 16 months. Made using large amounts of malt and roasted barley yields the most robust beer we make. Thick coffee like flavor and aroma. This beer is well hopped and finishes bitter. This is a real treat

Bottle with black label and 9.25% abv. Dark black pour, with a nice sized chocolate mouse head. Nice looking stout. Massively roasted, bitter dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, bit of caramel, and hops. Fairly dry tasting because it’s so roasty and bitter. Tasty and quite enjoyable. Thanks polomagnifico.

A nice brown lace sits on top of a rich pure dark color in my glass. The scent is of coffee, wood, roasted malts, and a chocolate aroma. Tasting this Imperial Stout I picked on coffee and malts primarily. There is a lite chocolate flavor. In the finish I was left with a coffee, roasted malts, and hops that coated my mouth. The finish has a mild bitterness too. Overall this is a fine drink. The rich ingredients stick to the palate but are pleasing and not too tainting.

12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. This 2012 vintage bottle has a black label with yellow print on the front, with an eagle behind the word "American". It is labeled 9.25%. Pour is almost completely black, very thick. Great thin darker brown head. Great lace. Awesome big roasty malt nose. Coffee and dark chocolate in the aroma. Big, super chewy body. Light carbonation. Long delicious roasty chocolatey coffee aftertaste, great to savor and sip on. Big roasty bitter taste. Light hint of caramel / chocolate (bitter-)sweetness. Only a slight bite in the finish. Big bitter hops noticeable. Great big imperial stout.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 booyah! thanks to umich03jm for this!! dark black pour aroma was almost perfection - 9 for me which is as high as I have ever rated a beer; slight wood, malt, and chocolate!!! 4 for palate; very smooth - wanted this to be chewier but that is nitpicking. Taste - damn damn damn I love this stuff!! the dark chocolate in the taste of this beer could not be better and is phenomenal!! beer was sweet up front with the chocolate all the way through past the end; a little boozy. thank you Jason - WOW!! re-rate - 02/14. lowered from 4.4 taste and aroma still good but not as perfect as first rate.

Bottle from mikem409 pours jet black with small tan head. Nose is full of dark chocolate. This transfers straight to palate with roast and booze on the edges. Body is slick and full. Booze is perfect, not to hot. This is great. Thanks again for the killer box mike.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2013 12 oz. bottle, pours a silky black as night with a miniscule brown head. Aroma is full of dark roasted malt, significant molasses, moderate espresso and a touch of liqueur. Flavour is extremely woody and roasted predominantly - with very dry wood (not the barrel aged type), dry roasted malts, and a touch of espresso - none of the aforementioned chocolate or liqueur - with a woody and quite hoppy, bitter, dry finish. Silky smooth palate, with an element of harshness from the hops. No detection of the high ABV at all. Excellent stuff here.

2012 vintage, 12 oz bottle into a tulip. Massive thanks to steimie for this beer! A - Pours a rather thick looking pitch black body. Two fingers of absurdly dark mocha foam forms from the pour. A swirl produces thick lacing with unreal retention...a minute later....ya, clinging foam is still slowly making its way down the side of the glass. A finger high cap sticks around the whole time. S - A dangerously inviting combination of sweet and roasty. The sweetness comes across almost in a lactose fashion ala a milk stout. Sweet milk chocolate and lightly bitter dark chocolate. Is it hops creating this sweetness? Its very hard to describe...but unbelievably awesome. Subtle raisins, coconut, and molasses. Finishes with a touch of roasted coffee and malts. Pretty much perfect. T - A lot more roast than the nose. Starts with some milk chocolate and coffee and cream. Brash roasted malts and bakers chocolate with a lingering bitterness. Faint touch of citric hops. Aftertaste is a bit ashy. Very tasty. M - Thick and coating, borderline syrupy but a medium level of carbonation cuts through and helps. Can’t detect any alcohol....drinks way too easy! O - One of the best non-barrel aged stouts I have ever had. The aroma and appearance are just perfect, and the taste was a bit roast heavy but remained insanely tasty. I’m sad to say that I drank half the beer just formulating this review. I want more!!!! Incredibly impressive stuff here.

12 oz bottle 2012 vintage. Super thick dark black pour with possible the darkest thick head I have ever seen. Nose is mainly roast and coffee. Taste follows the nose. Mouthfeel almost like a milkshake. Very nice no frills stout. Like a meal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Black pour, low but dense brown head, and aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor is roasty, with a good amount of dark chocolate flavor notes, and pleasing bitterness. Lots of depth to the flavor. Mouthfeel is creamy and velvety; very nice. Finish holds all the flavors and moderate bitterness linger without being at all aggressive. This a fantastic stout; one of the best I’ve had.
