COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American example of an English style of beer made for the Russian Royals. This ale deep black in color, finally released after being aged for 16 months. Made using large amounts of malt and roasted barley yields the most robust beer we make. Thick coffee like flavor and aroma. This beer is well hopped and finishes bitter. This is a real treat

Sampled at "An evening with Pantanap #2". 12oz bottle. Thanks to the man Kan for opening this. Pours a murky black brown with a wispy brown head. Aroma is really past its prime/aged. Soy sauce, chocolate, bready, doughy, a little sour. More of that soy sauce in the flavor. Sweet, chocolate, dough, bread, sherry, cherry, fruit, alcohol, oxidized and slightly sour. This is strange that it went down so quick. I like the oxidized sherry notes often but this is pretty intense.

12 oz bottle shared with toncatcher. Nice dark pour with lots of tan head. Nice roasty aroams. Chocolate and some coffee. Flavors were more coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Very Nice.

Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Intense aroma of rich, dark chocolate with luscious roasted malt. The flavor has also the chocolate and roasted malt but there’s also a litlle something that feels off and unpleasant. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation.

Black with a brown-ish head that receded, but did still leave some lacing. Smell is very roasty, with some chocolate notes as well. Still a little too green in the nose and taste to warrant a higher score. The taste did have similar roastiness to it, and seemed to have a little bit of molasses and hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel was full bodied with medium carbonation. Decent beer now, but with age it should improve greatly.

Sample from 12 ounce bottle at the Mondial, Montreal (May 2007). Black oil with no head, dense....soy sauce and tart grapes dominate the fairly unpleasant, somewhat cardboardy aroma; struggle as I might I find little chocolaty, roasty, or interesting here....body is very thick, sweet, milk- and dark-chocolate dominate....very little hoppiness, thick and pretty cloying, almost no carbonation....very problematic overall, though it becomes more drinkable and loses some of the borderline offensive qualities in the aroma with warmth....there were all kinds of thoughts on this one; I think some of the bottles were off in Montreal, and I lost the crapshoot. Oh well, Kuhnhenn’s inconsistencies aren’t nearly on the level of some brewers I can name, and this mediocre experience won’t scare me off....

(Rating #1067)

*Drank at le Mondial 07*Opaque black, oily poor with no head. Aromas of dark chocolate, prunes, coffee, soya, black cherries and a hint of vanilla and port. WoW! This is an impy? ... Very creamy, oily mouthfeel.... Good sweetness and somewhat a little salty? Added flavors of molasses, hint of hickory, alcohol, maple syrup, dark chocolate, black cherries and prunes.
