Bottle. Black pour, thin head. Heavy roast, nice sweetness, vanilla, plum, chocolate, smores, and bourbon warmth. Nice sipping beer, the abv is covered quite well.

Murky black in color, thin tan head. Potent bourbon aroma, followed by stone fruits (cherry, plum, blackcurrant), roasted malt, chocolate, and a subtle amount of vanilla. Oily smooth, full-bodied, and very boozy. A little too much carbonation. Warming, bittersweet finish.
Reminiscent of Bourbon County Brand Stout.

Bottle shared @ Oakquinox 2013. Black in color with a small tan head. Big roasted malt, vanilla, and bourbon aromas. Plenty of chocolate, a touch of marshmallow, coconut, and graham cracker. There’s an excellent sweetness to the flavor. Caramel, graham cracker, marshmallow, and vanilla. Decent bourbon, roasted malt, and a surprisingly well hidden ABV.

Bottle, 03/25/2013. Pours pitch black, relatively thin fizzy tan head which dies down to a flat surface, small ring of lacing. Aroma is thick, rich chocolate brownie, a bit nutty and smoky, marshmallow, medium supporting roast notes, solid bourbon finish, alcohol not really evident at all. Taste is vanilla, chocolate malts, moderate roast, licorice and coconut, strong hot bourbon finish, booze is a little spicy. Smooth full palate, though not necessarily what you would expect from a beer this size, alcohol is well masked all things considered. Nice, layered sipper but I guess not a showstopper for me as far as huge stouts go.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a surprisingly large (though not that big by conventional standards) tan head. Aroma of smoked malts, bourbon barrels, loads of roasted malt and some firepit scents. Flavour brings out smokey roasted malts, campfire, some moderate bourbon barrels, a little vanilla and char. Full-bodied and surprisingly smooth for an 18% ABV beer. Only slightly boozy, full of flavour, but perhaps a tad too smoky. Medium complexity and quite drinkable all things considering. Great stuff.

12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. Bourbon barrel aged 18% imperial stout. Black color. Light brown head, kinda bubbly. Fades to minimal ring around the glass. Little to no lace. Medium to bigger body. Light carbonation. Mild chewiness to the body as it warms up. Good enormously roasty, hugely malty flavor. Light coffee. Some light molasses, not overdone, little dark fruit. Good vanilla influence from the bourbon barrels, nice wood. Taste is kind of sweet, but 18% alcohol really isn’t too bad. It’s hard to drink this and not think of Avery Uncle Jacob’s Stout, which I just had a week or two ago. This Kuhnhenn isn’t as chewy, rich, decadent, or complex. But still a very fascinating and enjoyable beer.

Bottle compliments of Alen shared with Joe, Eric, and I. Pours pitch black with khaki head. Notes of toffee, roasted marshmallow, light licorice, brownie batter, sugar, raisin, bourbon and oak, Not much booze for 18 percent in the aroma or flavor. Thick mouth with soft carbonation. Perfect sipper for a snowy night.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dunt (214) - Illinois, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Bottle purchased at the Winter Solstice. Thanks a bunch for picking this up for me Ken! Pours a relatively flat pitch black in color, there is a slight marshmellow colored ring surrounding the glass. Nose is bold and impressive, heavy malt, boozy, caramel, black licorice, and some chocolate. Flavor starts out boozy and warming, moves to soy sauce and chocolate, and finishes vanilla and oaky. Mouthfeel is slick and oily, carbonation is low, mouthfeel is moderate to heavy, booze is heavy, and the finish is long. It is a pretty nice sipper actually. It has gotten a little more boozy as it has warmed, but it’s a nice smooth beer for the most part. Definitely recommend checking this out if you are a stout guy.

Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Black pour with a minimal head and huge intense aroma of raisins, sweet malt, and ripe fruit. Flavor is equally massive, with raisin, vanilla, wood, and booze. Just reminds me so much of BBA 4th Dementia, which is a good thing. Carbonation is soft, mouthfeel is substantial, and finishes with all the flavors lingering nicely. Fantastic stuff. Thank you, JM.

2012. Bourbony as hell, lots of booze. Sweet in the middle, booze kinda ruins the party though. Kuhnhenn does so many other things so well; RIS isn't one of them.
