Bottle bought at Kuhnhenn Winter Soltice 2012, this beer had a black-brown pour that made a one finger tan colored head that receded to a spotty cover and ring, this drink was opaque and I could not see any carbonation, I saw some bubbles flowing up the sides of the glass, it left some spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, there was a thin layer of dark brown sediment and a dark thicker ring of sediment on the bottom of the bottle, this Impy had aromas of roasted malt, barrel aging sweetness, chocolate, chocolate cake mix, liquor notes, brown sugar, molasses and liquor sweetness, it had flavors of malt and liquor sweetness, chocolate, brown sugar, malt and liquor sweetness, a little roasted malt bitterness that added a little balance to the sweetness in this drink, the finish was sweet with some roasted malt (but not much balance to the sweetness, it carries on afterwards), there was a little tingle and warmth on the throat from the alcohol, this did not take away from the enjoyment of this drink, the sweetness was out front in this beer, the mouth feel was medium to thick with a little creamy feel, and the carbonation was soft to average, this was a big barrel aged Impy beer, the nose was nice, the flavor had a big sweetness, the 18% alc. was hidden well in this drink, this beer had a nice blend of roasted malt and barrel aging sweetness, a nice sipping drink for a cold evening.

Bottle... This beer rocks!Ö Black pour with a tiny, creamy, off-white head. The bouquet is a collection of bourbon, toasted coconut, black chocolate and vanilla. Full-bodied and creamy with lazy carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, boozy and sweet. Finishes acrid, lightly acidic and deeply roasted. Kudos to biggsbowler for sharing this world class brew!

Pours black as night with just a bit of tan head. Nose is like waking up in the morning while camping...charred wood, burnt coffee and stale símores. Taste is mostly charred wood and lots of alcohol. I would have figured that the alcohol would have been a bit more subdued on this one after that long in the barrels and a couple years of age on it...but very boozy still. I get nothing from the barrel and no vanilla, as it was billed. The charred wood takes over.

2012 Bottle - Pitch black pour with mocha head. Pretty thick but not the thickest. Nose of roasted malts, barrel, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste follows the nose with a great balance of roast and sweetness. Not much of a hop profile to speak of. Certainly not tasting the 18% but there is the kick of a good BA Stout. Very nicely done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown out of the glass, pitch black, really slow nitro like carb due to the abv. not much head. Nose is a whiskey bomb. Lots of vanilla and oak and raisins. Trims the nose hairs as you snift. The smell lets you know that shit is about to get real. Taste is huge. Loads of the darkest fruits like figs, raisins and prunesÖ.very little chocolate but ashy charcoal and dipping tobacco. blackberry finish and the whiskey is very forward with a lot of vanilla and healthy coconut and very cabernet tannic dry notes. really amazing beer.

Bottle (12 oz). 2012. From TheSevenDuffs, thanks Marcus! Pitch black with reddish reflects, no head and no lacing. Aroma is of vanilla, roasted malt, bourbon, sweetness and dark fruits. Taste is moderately sweet with vanilla, bourbon, roasted malt and a nice dark fruits finish. Alcohol is warming, but not burning which is good considering itís an 18% abv stout. Full bodied. Low carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Rich, complex and decadent BA RIS with a nice vanilla presence and a nice touch of dark fruits. Surprisingly "drinkable" for the style/abv. Very good!

12/23/13. 12oz bottle thanks to polomagnifico! Thanks! Black pour with a small tan head. Rich aroma, sweet liqueurs, bourbon, dark fruits, and some roast. Rich flavor, cherry aspects, liqueurs, chocolate, ash, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and more. Alcohol hidden surprisingly well. Tasty.

Pours less dark than expected, minimal tan head quickly dissipating. Smell is HUGE vanilla, oak, bit of roast, very sweet, tannin, minimal alcohol. Taste sweet fudgy coco, heat, vanilla, oak, no way this can be 18%, caramel, red fruit, full body, amazing

Bottle 2012 through trade! Pour has a very dark black color with a coating of brown head that held a ring on the glass. Aroma has dark rich malt, dark chocolate, molasses, oak, and a bit of bourbon. Mouth feel is medium full and the carbonation light though it is there. Flavor is huge in the malt department, fruity hits, dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. The alcohol clearly plays a factor considering the strength of this but after warming up to it and crushing a few taste buds it does have a big rich flavor that stands up to it.

Bottle shared by drowland at xmas, so it was like 1am and we were like, might as well open up an 18% stout to finish off the night. Pours black with a really thin head, the aroma was of heavy chocolate at first with quite a bit of booze coming through on the nose, didnít hide it all that much at all, thick mouthfeel, the flavor has a lot of dark fruit and chocolate in the finish but the booze kind of dominates this one, interesting.

Pours thick as mud and just as black with no head. The aroma is tight with raisins, tar, and dark chocolate. On the palate, the mouthfeel is nice, but the alcohol lends a sourness to the finish that is unpleasant. Very sweet with similar flavors as the nose, but with some vanilla added in. Didnít really want to finish my 8oz pour.
