3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear, very pale yellow color. Nose of anise/licorice, cloying sugary sweetness, and booze. A touch of yeast, some white wine grapes, lightly sweet. The flavor is quite sweet, almost cloyingly so. It’s not quite as heavy on the licorice flavor as I expected, but still there. Grape sweetness, a touch of apple, and alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle…RBSG 2010… Clear, straw-colored mead with numerous legs after a quick swirl. The aroma has a black jelly bean component, but it’s too restrained for my liking. Give me more jelly bean, man. Also, red and green apple with lesser notes of menthol and eucalyptus flora. Full-bodied and oily with no carbonation. The flavor is nice, rich and as sweet as it should be; no more, no less. Clover honey and a touch of vanilla. No black jelly bean in the flavor. Slow, luxuriant fade.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pale yellow. Aroma of urinal mints, maybe a bit of licorice. Flavor is a bit bitter, sweet flavors of white grape, wintergreen, menthol. Weird.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Fruity, apricot, great tasting honey. Like a sensational white wine. Better if you hvae had licorice spice tea in the past.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle on the RBSG bus. Pours clear straw to white. Viscous. No legs really. Nose is heavy jolly rancher, melted strawberry Popsicle, heavy dense sugar and syrup. Taste is green apple, big melted jolly rancher. Hmm. One of the more unsuccessful kuhnhenn meads.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sample at the brewpub. This Mead is a clear yellow color with a minimal white head. No lacing is apparent. Aroma of black licorice and a touch of spearmint. Full, viscous body with a strong anise flavor like its namesake. Underlying molasses and mint. The finish retains the black jelly bean character. Guessing this is a love it or hate it type beverage, but since I enjoy black jelly beans I think it is really good.
