Blueberry aroma is strong with hefty undertones of pastry dough. Cloudy, murky, tan-brown with a light ring of white head and lots of suspended fruit. Blueberry flavour is strong with lightly tart, acetic sourness. Medium body with strong, prickly carbonation. Sampled at Mondial de la BiŤre 2005.

Sample at the Mondial, from 12 oz bottle (I think). Tiny swirls of dried berry-bits suspended in a cloudy dark amber body with remnants of a foamy ring...aroma of, umm, blueberry pancakes, or the batter from which they are made...body a bit too acidic, one-note fruity, tasty to my fruit-beer loving palate but without enough malt for most...still, an interesting and worthwhile experiment, and probably better on tap or from bottles not sitting too long in the sun...

2004 draught at Michigan Brewers Festival. Pours a deep purple/dark blue with some lighter violet tinges and a small beige colored head. Nice and thick. Aroma has very fruity blueberries; sweet and ripe, with a sugary malt note on the backend. Flavor is lightly bitter and pleasingly fruity without being watery and weak. Lots of blueberries, but an equal dose of sweet malt and some bitter hops hold this one together well. Finishes bitter and a bit loose textured, but not watery. Mouthfeel is a touch gritty, seems very similar to a glass of blueberry juice with lots of pulp in it. Not sure of the alcohol content on this one, but itís not apparent.

Growler split with Joe and Alan, pours hazy red orange with thin head and not much lacing. Aromas of heavy bluberry, sweet malts, and light pancake. Flavor has sweet bluberries, gingerbread, belgian spice, and lots of malt. Medium to fuller body. Active carbonation. Lacks some balance and needs more pancake flavor. Still a very interesting brew from Kuhnhenn.

On tap at the brewery. Dark beer with a violet foam for a head. Blueberry and sugar nose. This is a blueberry forward beer with some maple syrup notes. It is reminiscent of the last bite of blueberry pancake when you sop up all the syrup.

On tap @ TÝrst. Deep dark purple blue on the glass this and it has a nice medium sized lacing and sidesticking kinda pinkish top. Lovely sweet blueberry and raspberry concentrate aroma. It basically smells like nosing juice from the childhood - added tons and tons of sugar. Almost artificial in the aroma. Weird flavor. It has lots of blueberries, but also a salty almost ammonia like thing. Blue cheese, mustard seeds and artificial raspberry juice. Itís light oily on the mouthfeel and the carbonation level is quite high. It smelled better than it tasted, but itís definitely a interesting one. 12.06.2013

Sampled at le Mondial de la biŤre 2005. Pours a slightly cloudy caramel / brown color with a thin white head. Aroma of blueberries with a doughy element, maybe it comes from the yeast. Ordinary flavor of mild blueberries. Light body, dry mouthfeel, soft carbonation.

Bottle at Mondial 2005. Sweet, yeasty banana aroma with some sour berries present and a bit of butteriness. Very hazy rusty orange color with a small tan head and lots of blueberry sediment. Slightly sweet acidic berry aroma to start. Finishes bland, and watery. This is entirely way too thin and quite underwhelming.

12 oz bottle. Cloudy gold with a fluffy head and small chunks of what I can only assume is blueberry. Aroma and taste is light on the blueberries (which is good) and mellow, sweet hops. Flavor has some toasty grains to balance it all out. Just the right amount of blueberry in this to make it a quaffable libation.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2014 [Growler / Spring 2013 Batch] Thanks, Jeff! Murky, pours like shit-colored swamp water... bottom of the barrel? Watery mud with black/blue specs floating around... What? Aroma smells like a bowl of Fruity Pebbles, blueberry perfume, faint maple, & a finish of something spicy & herbal... almost like tobacco but not as harsh. Earthy? A little sweet cocoa in the tail end, too. Taste is heavier blueberry syrup but still carries a fruity collage, again, much like Fruity Pebbles. Dense, juicy, syrupy. Brown sugar, light cocoa, & more of that ashy, herbal tobacco leaf character. Some crush black pepper notes as well. Wow, what a unique beer. I donít know if Blueberry Pancake is the best name, but it was a pretty damn tasty brew.

[Tap @ Kuhnhenn / Spring 2014 Batch] This time around, the brew was like a thicker, blue & indigo tinted syrup with a lavender head. Aroma was definitely more blueberry oriented, rather than a collage of fruits. Blueberry syrup all day! Taste was sweet blueberries, light syrupy tones with an almost potpourri like spice element hitting hard on the back-end. All in all, almost a completely different brew from last yearís batch, but still very tasty. I like them both!
