Styles (1653), Taylor, Michigan, USA Mar 9, 2005 Tap: amber in color almost no head. Dry malty aroma with some caramel and malted grain flavor. Average brew overall. jeffc666 (1821), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 13, 2005 Cloudy red-amber with a smnall light tran head. The aroma is lightly stale malt, tobacco even. Some dark fruit and sweetness also. The flavor is alcohol, sweet fruity malts, caramel, and a bit of staleness, even maybe medicinal. Medium dry, attenuated finsih. jtw (916), farmington, Michigan, USA Feb 4, 2005 draft at brewery. light color, for a bock. i think perhaps others are reading too much into this beer; it seemed rather straightforward to me. aside from the pleasant malt notes, some typical lagery scents--lightly yeasty. very clean, but not too complex. some dark fruits and malts, but otherwise not spectacular. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Dec 31, 2004 2004 draught 12/04 at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with some barely perceptible burgundy/maroon tinges and a strong light tan head. Aroma is slightly weak, in retrospect, after drinking the beer. Some light caramel, sour yeast and prune notes. What the aroma lacks, is made up for by the flavor. Havent had a regular gravity beer this flavorful in a long time. Immediately washes the palate with sticky, chewy caramel, toffee, prunes, raisins, a touch of tobacco perhaps. Ends on a drier chocolate and yeast mix. Clean lager finish, a touch of thinning, that belies the huge flavor up front. Medium body, moderate carbonation, low hops apparency. I definitely had two pints of this while I was there. 11026 (1886), USA Dec 23, 2004 Tap. Medium brown in color. What little head is present is whitish. No lacing. Caramelish taste of malt. Little bits of hop in taste. Decent
