Bottle. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, toasted malt, bourbon alcohol and vanilla wood aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bourbon vanilla sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

Traded 2009 bottle. Look, aroma and flavor are fairly true to form except...I get a really strong mineral/sediment/earth taste. For my own reference it reminds me of Fort Worth tap water. The 15 ABV hits a little hard but to be expected. Good but probably a little "too big" for me.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Advocate_Ames (225) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 21, 2012
On tap. A nice diminishing head that turns into lacing on my glass. The scent of bourbon hits my nose intensely. It is followed by carmel malts. The BBBW flows with malt and bourbon flavor. The bourbon is more tamed than the scent led me to believe. The sweet roasted malts lend a hand to balance things out. In the end there is slight bitterness and minor dryness. Overall this is a very tasty beverage.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Elwood (2490) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - DEC 16, 2012
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from the CheeseMan. 2009 variety. Thanks Daniel! It pours a muddy, reddish brown with no head at all. There seems to be prickly carbonation, but this brew can’t muster any head at all. The nose is a potent mix of brown sugar, treacle, fruit cake, bread. The flavor seems to follow suit with the nose. A good up front sweetness with hints of date, dark caramel, dark bread, light wood, and light bourbon. The alcohol is certainly there, but it dries things out nicely on the back end which is good given the complete lack of carbonation. Definitely warming on the way down, this one is a sipper. Great flavor and balance given the ABV, I would love to have a few more of these.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jercraigs (6473) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2012
2012-11-18. Murky dark brown body, headless. Big aroma, bourbon, light wood, alcohol and tangy rich malt character. Flavour is similar, lots of bourbon character, support sweet malt core, tangy fruity character lends itself to a fairly dry warming finish. Surprisingly bitter. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is essentially still. Some carbonation would go a long way to make this lighter on the palate. Has nice highlights, but leaves the mouth tingly with alcohol and sits pretty heavily on the palate. Decent but lacks the nuance and sophistication to take it up a notch. Bottle, note on cap says 12/2011 via trade with flandersned
