4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 2012 - thanks deyholla! Pours clear ruby hazel with a tiny tan head that nonetheless has nice lacing. Aroma is bourbon, molasses, toffee, cherries, figs, dates. Flavor is the same, sweet and hot with some astringence and woody notes. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, somewhat flat. A bit hot, but not really much considering the ABV. Nice beer, not amazing.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle (2010 vintage), shared by Matt B -- Thanks! The bottle ominously bubbled up a bit upon opening. The pour was a clear amber with a practically still surface. Gigantic, lasting soy sauce finish is the biggest thing that really stood out to me about this - bummer. Aside from that, there’s caramelized brown sugar, bourbon, just the smallest hint of oxidation. Full body, slick, syrupy texture. Remarkably smooth, with the alcohol well-masked. Overall: pretty awesome even with its flaws. Intense.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown of color with a fast disappering beige head. An aroma of sweets, prunes, port, vanilla, raisins and dark sugar. A flavor of alcohol, prunes, liqurice, spice, caramel, chocolate, nuts, woody and alcohol in the finish.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark brown pour with almost no head. Aromas of dark fruit, oak, cocoa, bourbon, and some yeast notes. Initial flavor is of raisin with notes of cocoa and dark fruit. Finishes with the oak and bourbon character. Very complex. Abv is well-hidden, barely noticeable in the finish but even then in that nice warming way. Truly a great beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle. 2011 bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that soon disappears . The aroma is big and bold with dark fruits, bourbon and sherry. The taste is similar to the nose, I get bourbon, sherry, raisins, walnuts and dates. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry with lingering sherry. Overall: A bit boozy but still excellent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting - East Croydon. Thanks to Kenny for this 2009 vintage bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a faint, creamy foam head. Deep, dark sugary malt nose, some cheese notes. Big sweet flavor with hefty alcohol kick, coffee ice cream, caramel, dates. Big in body with finely carbonated. Hot finish with further coffee ice cream, lots of alcohol, chewy ripe fruits, salt, figs. Loads of alcohol heat here. Nothing special

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2013 Bottle thanks to tom10101 again, someone stop this guy!! Thanks! Pours a clear copper with a low carbonation level hence almost no head. Not really a defect for a barleywine. Aroma is really and rich, with a lot of brown sugar and a little rubbing alcohol. Taste is more of the same but now with toffee, syrup and various sweets notes. As mentionned earlier the carbonation was soft so texture was oily, thick, sticky... quite fun! Overall a really nice BW, bourbon was discrete but this is how we like it!
