12 ounce bottle, 2008 vintage, courtesy of deyholla and shared at the 15th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 7/16/11. Pours a clear amber color with a thin head. Aroma of toffee, bourbon and a salty, cheesy note. The taste is toffee, bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla and a bitter hop finish. Full bodied with a slight bit of heat.

Bottle provided by hoppymeal. Thank you! Clear brown color. Barely any head. Vanilla, dates, figs, honey, agave, brown sugar, light bourbon and woody notes. Flavor is sweet with dates, figs, bourbon, syrup, alcohol, wood, and a really nice hop finish. Really a wonderful beer. I am guessing this one will get better over the next year.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Almost clear, deep orange ale with crimson highlights and a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is vinous and fruity. Itís a swirl of caramel, port, fig, dried plum, wood and light bourbon. Vinous, woodsy, heavily sweet flavor with notes of caramel, toffee and bourbon. English style barley wine for certain. Faint bitterness. No real alcohol bite. Full-bodied and chewy/syrupy with subtle carbonation. Lengthy, sweet, dark fruit finish with a splash of port. BIG, bold, excellent beer!

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2012 Bottle @ home, courtesy of maximum12. Huge thanks! Deep brown appearance with a small tan head. Unbelievable toasty, caramel malty, rich toffee, dark fruity, plum, bourbon, vanilla, oaky aroma. Super rich toffee, caramel malty, big vanilla, delicious bourbon, oak, more toffee flavor. No hint of the 15% abv until itís half way down your throat. Holy fuck- this is easily one of the best beers Iíve ever had. Huge malty, caramel, toffee flavor. I think I like Abacus a touch more but fuck, this could be the best beer Iíve ever had for all I know. Update: this is a great mother fucking but isnít the best Iíve had, as I previously considered.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with hopscotch (thanks!). Poured a medium mahogany color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, citrus, toffee, raisins, plums, and cherries. Tastes of bourbon, caramel, cherries, dark fruits, and toffee. Light alcohol finish. Perfect for our night cap beer!

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Mondiale 2007. Dark brown body with amber highlights. A great soapy white head. Very fresh tasting, vanilla and caramel. A very good bourbon barrel effort, and a great matchup of barleywine.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2013 2011 vintage. 12 oz. bottle, sent from northernbrews (thanks a lot, Jeff!), pours a deep dark mahogany with almost no head, just a small beige ring. Aroma brings out some deep, lush bourbon barrels, some alcohol liqueur notes, and toffee and brown sugar further back. Flavour brings out the bourbon barrels big time, but never in a distasteful way, full of brown sugar, some kind of sweet boozy liqueur, loads of caramel and toffee, and alcohol. This is big n bold, alright, and executed with supreme skill. So much depth, with a luxurious mouthfeel. Though it is sweet, it doesnít suffer from cloying sweetness like so many Kuhnhenn beers do. One of my all-time favourite barley wines.
