4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle provided by hoppymeal. Thank you! Clear brown color. Barely any head. Vanilla, dates, figs, honey, agave, brown sugar, light bourbon and woody notes. Flavor is sweet with dates, figs, bourbon, syrup, alcohol, wood, and a really nice hop finish. Really a wonderful beer. I am guessing this one will get better over the next year.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Mondiale 2007. Dark brown body with amber highlights. A great soapy white head. Very fresh tasting, vanilla and caramel. A very good bourbon barrel effort, and a great matchup of barleywine.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2012 Bottle @ home, courtesy of maximum12. Huge thanks! Deep brown appearance with a small tan head. Unbelievable toasty, caramel malty, rich toffee, dark fruity, plum, bourbon, vanilla, oaky aroma. Super rich toffee, caramel malty, big vanilla, delicious bourbon, oak, more toffee flavor. No hint of the 15% abv until itís half way down your throat. Holy fuck- this is easily one of the best beers Iíve ever had. Huge malty, caramel, toffee flavor. I think I like Abacus a touch more but fuck, this could be the best beer Iíve ever had for all I know. Update: this is a great mother fucking but isnít the best Iíve had, as I previously considered.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2013 Draft special at the solstice party. Someone said this was the bourbon barrel and then the brandy barrel. Iím not sure. It could have been both because Iíd seen old ales and barley wines on bourbon come off a little fruity/sweet like this. This one smells downright amazing, with a huge red grape and plum and wine-stained oak note along with some bread and peat notes in the nose. Lots of wood tannins at play, and slightly oxidized. Very low carbonation, sweet, spicy, velvety, very amazing. Reminds me of sherry, sour brown ales, red wine, and potpourri.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2007 The Lure:
Regal bourbon licorice sticks act as a proud prow to this baccate toffee vessel. Its sails are swollen by sweet cocoa and palm sugar as it glides forward in confirmed smoky fraternity.
Harmonious berries wade in a wealthy, slick sea of bubblegummy candied malts and bourbon heat. A very fine carbonation allows the flavors to float in synchronicity, as sugary dates, raisins and a peaceful alcohol warming assure a lip-smacking posterity. Alcohol bitterness plays the role of the hops and skillfully diversifies the malt. As inspiring as Alesmithís own barrel-aged ventures, this luxurious barley wine is as velvety as they get.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012-11-18. Murky dark brown body, headless. Big aroma, bourbon, light wood, alcohol and tangy rich malt character. Flavour is similar, lots of bourbon character, support sweet malt core, tangy fruity character lends itself to a fairly dry warming finish. Surprisingly bitter. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is essentially still. Some carbonation would go a long way to make this lighter on the palate. Has nice highlights, but leaves the mouth tingly with alcohol and sits pretty heavily on the palate. Decent but lacks the nuance and sophistication to take it up a notch. 3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle sampled on 3/12/07: Pours a transparent copper orange with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet aged caramel malt with a big earthy, toasty butterscotch vanilla character. Body starts with a viscous sticky caramel sweetness with some brown sugar and raisin complexity toward a very warming sweet viscous finish. A nice barleywine, but a little over the top, cloying and alcoholic.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
355mL thanks to ryan I think at DC Elite. Hard to believe this turns out so well with such a mediocre base. Rich rum raisin, mellow bourbon, vanilla nose. Taste is full of hot, warming bourbon; vanilla; rich maltiness. Still a little syrupy sweet.
