Stud tasting 1.0 held at general_gaos. Thanks for putting up with us colin! Pours a brownish red with no head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, strong malts, and cherry. Flavor is up front celery, blood/minerals, sea weed, booze, cherry, foot, funk. Finishes boozy, warming, some tartness. I guess even at a stud tasting you get one turd. I think the other two guests enjoyed this one, so it was just me, not the bottle

Bottle. Aroma has got some nice bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Slightly smoked and salty. Does not taste like a traditional barley wine. Its however quite enjoyable, altough a bit one dimensional. Too alcoholic and sharp. Short taste.

12 ounce bottle. Tons of bourbon and wood. Fruity alcohol, raisins, malty, caramel, vanilla. There is not much balance between the barrel aging and the barely wine. Not a bad beer, but does not hold my interest. I feel it would improve with some age.

Tempting aroma and dark pour with a smoother than expected taste and warming mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting - East Croydon. Thanks to Kenny for this 2009 vintage bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a faint, creamy foam head. Deep, dark sugary malt nose, some cheese notes. Big sweet flavor with hefty alcohol kick, coffee ice cream, caramel, dates. Big in body with finely carbonated. Hot finish with further coffee ice cream, lots of alcohol, chewy ripe fruits, salt, figs. Loads of alcohol heat here. Nothing special

ed-amber, thin white head reduces to a ring. Nose is moderate oxidation, light caramel, juniper, and heat, pretty sugary. Flavor is more oxidized, minor fruit behind the oppressive cardboard and paper, thin sugary dates through end.

Traded 2009 bottle. Look, aroma and flavor are fairly true to form except...I get a really strong mineral/sediment/earth taste. For my own reference it reminds me of Fort Worth tap water. The 15 ABV hits a little hard but to be expected. Good but probably a little "too big" for me.

2009. Schwerer, deutlich alkoholischer Antrunk mit eher wenig Aromen. Etwas brennend, wenig getreidig, wenig würzig malzig. Zum Ende schokoladig, brennend alkoholisch. 7/11/10/11/9/9

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2012 Bottle, thanks to Ken at THE Barley Wine Tasting, August 2012. It pours murky deep brown, with no head. The nose is initially strongly cheesy, brie, stinky feet and Wotsits, as well as vanilla, toasted coconut, toffee and meatiness. The taste is thankfully a bit better....toffee, caramel, wood, dry leather, light saltiness, toast, bourbon, waxy cheese rind and alcohol warmth. Full body, low carbonation and syrupy mouth-feel. Pretty cheesy and alcoholic. A disappointment.
