At a tasting, thanks DSG, clear very dark brown colour, suprising aroma of fresh berries and plums with dark bread, werther’s original candy, strong werthers flavour and dried fruits flavour with some alcohol showing through but not feeling to heavy. Nice but not too great.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a clear copper with no head. The aroma is strong booze, wood, roast. Thin mouthfeel with raisin, booze, candy sugar, sweet finish. Good.

2014 vintage. Pours a deep mahogany. Copper hues. A small tan head that fades to a ring. A bit of leg creeps up the glass. Aromas of roasted malt, wet oak, whiskey and dark fruit. Hot! Taste follows the nose with the barrel character being very prominent. Rich roasted barley, dark fruits and some earthiness carry the body, but ultimately, it is the wet oak bourbon that leaves the final impression. Good stuff, but a bit too barrel-forward at this time.

This poured a murky amber color with a small beige head. Aroma was a good bit of broubon, lots of caramel, and some burnt cake there too .. Flavor was very sweet, but not really cloying, almost watery actually, for the style, and lots of caramel nad toasted sweetness with some borubon heat. Just a bit disconjointed.

2012-11-18. Murky dark brown body, headless. Big aroma, bourbon, light wood, alcohol and tangy rich malt character. Flavour is similar, lots of bourbon character, support sweet malt core, tangy fruity character lends itself to a fairly dry warming finish. Surprisingly bitter. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is essentially still. Some carbonation would go a long way to make this lighter on the palate. Has nice highlights, but leaves the mouth tingly with alcohol and sits pretty heavily on the palate. Decent but lacks the nuance and sophistication to take it up a notch. Bottle, note on cap says 12/2011 via trade with flandersned

Dark copper-brown color, small beige head. Strong aroma of toffee and vanilla. Full-bodied. Lots of bourbon and vanilla. Alcohol, warming. Strong and a bit sticky. Quite sweet but nice dessert beer when you have it in small quantities.

bottle 2009 opaque reddish brown pour with a minimal head big and boozy, lots of bourbon aroma and flavor, slight alcohol burn in the flavor. This is definitely a beer you drink very slowly; it was a bit hot for my liking

Silphium (3191) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 28, 2011
2010 bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Translucent dark copper body, no head. Nose of alcohol, circus peanuts, brown sugar, and band-aid phenols. Body dominated by brown sugar and caramel corn with huge buttery oak and warming alcohol. Round and rather dry despite the brown sugar notes; slick palate. Not as impressive as the Bourbon 4th Dementia.
