Brewed with a blend of German pilsen, wheat, and honey malt, Brother's Gold is brewed in the tradition of a true German Kolsch, full of flavor yet refreshing.

Draught at the brewery. Pours a clear pale yellow/gold with a small white head that dimnishes to a ring around the glass. The aroma is light citrus and floral hops and light grass. The flavor has light yeast, earthy hops, light malt , and medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to light and fairly smooth. Flavor is short lived.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2005 On tap: Lighl Euro-lager aroma with some light hops. Transparent gold with a soapy white head. Light sweet Euro-lager flavors up front with a nice light citrus and hop finish. Hops are citrusy and flowery. Not bad, just not my style.

This poured a golden ye;;pw color with a white head. Aroma was light german grassy hops and 2 row malt. Flavor was a bit of butterscotch and light hops. Nothing interesting here.

2004 draught 12/04 at the brewery. Bright yellow-golden, large bubbles, light haze and a small white head. Aroma of light dusty pils malt, some light wheat notes and a tinge of hops. Flavor begins with a light, unagressive yeast, followed by a lightly metallic hops and grain body. The wheat keeps the flavor dry while providing a very even and soft body. Moderate carbonation, faint honey notes. Even served fairly cold, I can still find plenty of flavor in this. Light hints of lemon arise as it warms, brought on by the hops, which are very well done (not overdone). Extremely drinkable, medium-light body and wonderfully to style. Perhaps a little less yeast apparency than I would like, but that could be a result of drinking this too cold. As was intended by the style, this beer goes down quick and easy, with a refreshing hops zing and a smooth, clean wheat and malt end.

On tap at Kuhnhenn, this was a very clean, refreshing, crisp kolsch dominated by crisp, petaly hops backed by light bready malt with subtle nectary sweetness.

On tap at the Devil’s Den in South Philly. I have no idea how they got this beer but I was very excited and made a trip there last night just to try it. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden amber orange with light golden yellow hues when held to a light source and a one finger frothy white head that quickly fades into a lasting ring. No lacing. Very sweet citrus aroma that smells mostly of lemon juice. There is a healthy dose of citrus lemon peel as well as some biscuit malt, subtle hops and lemon zest. Fuller end of medium body some some nice yeasty bready notes. Very sweet citrus peel presence that again is mostly lemon juice and lemon zest. Graham cracker biscuity malt and nice crisp hops lying underneath. The sweetness form the lemon flavor is way too overpowering, like someone squeezed an ounce or tow of lemon juice in my glass. This really hurts the drinkability and really ruins a lot of the positives of this beer.

tap: standard golden color with decent white head. Nice lacing. Big euro skunk hop aroma and flavor. Saaz? Enough malt to balance the flavor, decent just not a kolsch fan.

Draft at Kuhnhenn. Lightly hazy w/ small white head. Light lacing. Lemons and earth tones (grass) in aroma. Taste is lightly sweet with some tasty bitterness in the end. Hints of oranges and nectarines in the finish.

Sampled on draught @ Kuhnhenn Brewing Company in Warren, Michigan. Light golden color. Soft malty aroma, with delicate fruit, light grain and lightly floral/herbaceous hops. Fresh, incredibly grainy texture and flavor, with a light fruit character and a lush herbal hop flavor, though light. This beer redefines grainy. Although I have had several samples of Kolsch, I believe this was my first ever true rendition. The brewer is a BJCP judge, so he knows his styles, plus imported samples are usually always old and American samples just generally are not that great. This is how I would imagine beer in Cologne. Fantastic Kolsch.

Tap. Golden yellow color, white head. Hops are present in aroma along with wheat and light hints of malt. Taste is crisp, perhaps dry. Hoppy and a little spicy.
