Tres. I don’t get the umph but I do get something that I’m surprised to see as a very good Kölsch. American brewed no less. Thus far in my life I had not derived much pleasure from this variety of brew. Much more flavorful than the imported beers from Köln that I’ve had the opportunity to quaff. Perhaps it’s a freshness factor. Still, this one proved quite appetizing. Yellow and foamy. Tingly on the tongue. It brought with it a dry, sour gumball flair. This is something I’d definitely like to try again.

going to tweak this a little I just brought a growler home amd before I knew it it was gone This went down so nice and smooth my 1st rating was 3.5. from the tap from the brewery poured a straw yellow with a white head a nice malts and hops. flavor about the same a vey good beer went down nice and smooth.

Sampled on draught @ Kuhnhenn Brewing Company in Warren, Michigan. Light golden color. Soft malty aroma, with delicate fruit, light grain and lightly floral/herbaceous hops. Fresh, incredibly grainy texture and flavor, with a light fruit character and a lush herbal hop flavor, though light. This beer redefines grainy. Although I have had several samples of Kolsch, I believe this was my first ever true rendition. The brewer is a BJCP judge, so he knows his styles, plus imported samples are usually always old and American samples just generally are not that great. This is how I would imagine beer in Cologne. Fantastic Kolsch.

2004 draught 12/04 at the brewery. Bright yellow-golden, large bubbles, light haze and a small white head. Aroma of light dusty pils malt, some light wheat notes and a tinge of hops. Flavor begins with a light, unagressive yeast, followed by a lightly metallic hops and grain body. The wheat keeps the flavor dry while providing a very even and soft body. Moderate carbonation, faint honey notes. Even served fairly cold, I can still find plenty of flavor in this. Light hints of lemon arise as it warms, brought on by the hops, which are very well done (not overdone). Extremely drinkable, medium-light body and wonderfully to style. Perhaps a little less yeast apparency than I would like, but that could be a result of drinking this too cold. As was intended by the style, this beer goes down quick and easy, with a refreshing hops zing and a smooth, clean wheat and malt end.

12oz btl, sampled in late 2005. No idea of bottling date, but tastes fresh. Pours a sparkling golden with two-finger white head, loosely strewn about carbonation fading slowly back into the body. Aroma is surprising, very lively bavarian hops profile, light but pleasant yeasts, corn and lightly toasted fresh grains. Flavor is stellar, very fresh and interesting. Similarities to the aroma include more fresh hops, malts and yeast. Also traces of lemon, honey, healthy grass, other orange fruits, wheat. Palate is perfect for the style, light bodied and very dangerously drinkable. Finishes with a slight sting from the hops and a tongue coating of super soft malt and honey, a little bready. An excellent rendition of the style, definitely the best that I’ve encountered.

Draft at the brewery, is a deep gold with a white head that thinned to a ring, some effervescent bubbles rise to the top, left lots of lacing on the glass, aroma of malt and fruit fragrances, a dry malt aroma with faint hops, malt and bread flavor that reminds me of a pilsner but more so in flavor, some fruit flavor and more hop crisp bitterness than I have encountered in other Kolschs, some citrus in the finish combined with the hop bite to give a good dry finish, thick mouth feel, medium or less carbonation, not as light of a drink as I was expecting, tasty.

Draft at Kuhnhenn. Lightly hazy w/ small white head. Light lacing. Lemons and earth tones (grass) in aroma. Taste is lightly sweet with some tasty bitterness in the end. Hints of oranges and nectarines in the finish.

On tap at the brewery. Golden color, white head. Clean malts, fruity, with some herbal and floral hop character. Light to medium bodied. Refreshing. Nice stuff.
