4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, 2012 winter Solstice bottling. Pours hazy deep ruby brown color with a small foamy off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raspberry, cherry, cranberry, raisin, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, spice cake, brown sugar, and licorice. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of fruit notes with malt and moderate spices. Taste of raspberry, raisin, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, spice cake, brown sugar, clove, and licorice. Lingering notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, spice cake, cinnamon, nutmeg, and licorice on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruit flavors with big malt sweetness and moderate spices; no cloying sweetness after the finish surprisingly. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent and unique winter warmer style. Big robustness and nice balance of fruity, malt, and spice flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to snifter (shared with the wife; thanks mikem409). Looks good; an almost completely opaque reddish-brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells of malt and fruitcake. Tastes like it smells with a nice, clean finish. Drinks easier than 9% too. My wife and I both enjoyed this one (and I don’t even like fruitcake).

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a hazy brownish-orange color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Spicy aroma of coriander and anise with some malt in the background. Medium body with a sweet spice character and flavors of malt, pine and fruit. The finish is sweet with a lingering spice aftertaste. Above average overall.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a reddish-brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is very heavy on the cherries. The flavor is similar with a few additions. There is still a good bit of cherry character, but I also get some nice maple, oak and vanilla notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured up on tap at the Kuhnhenn brewpub with deep copper body and off white head. The aroma is like citrus and pineapple followed by red wine, various spicy notes and then orange peel at the end of the draw. The taste is spicy with ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon as well as producing notes of orange peel and cloves. I also get plums and raisins heading toward a faint pepperiness.

Draft sample at MBGWF 2011. Poured hazy reddiah amber with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy fruit, dough and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy spice and fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderated duration. Refreshing complex beer.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2012 Draft. Aroma has notes of candied fruits, cherries, holiday spice and cough syrup. Hazy dark brown hue with a white head. Flavor is very very sweet and a nice sour/tart finish. Palate is very full bodied and cloying with a soft carbonation. Overall a much better experience this time. The beer was nice and very rich. Initial Rating: 8-3-7-3-13
Draft. Aroma has notes of mint, strong hydroponic weed, spice, cloves, cinnamon and weeds. Hazy medium amber hue w/ off-white head. Medium bodied. A fuckin nasty beer. Smelled like a pirate hooker with a yeast infection.
