4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
bottle at spuytin duyvil - back to back with the braggott. darker brown pour with close to a plum hue. again little carbonation but bubbles on the tongue. no lacing or head and grafter flavor with warmth. increased malts from the braggott and smoother notes of caramel, brown sugar, and tobacco. palate is dry with a sweet oily lasting finish. this is a great beer and again an awesome compliment to a pipe smoke.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at spuyten duyvil.. This place is epic.. Pour is the exact same at the braggot.. Wait a minute.. They collaborated with the same fella for both.. Pour is the same no head dark dark red brown. Aroma is more malt than the braggot with some sweet booze and dark fruit. Taste is dark fruit.. Raisins, toffee with some sweet honey and malts. Mouthfeel is viscous and boozy finish lingers., unbelievable back to back with the kuhnhenn braggot.. Clearly the same creation with more malt and more wood.. Genius.. I may need to leave at this point.. A nice 12.5

Bottle. Pours reddy brown with no head. Aroma is a sticky syrup with hot toddy essence. Flavour is spicy whiskey with a warm alcohol feel. Liquid isn’t very viscous. Taste is more bourbon than scotch.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, Winter 2011 vintage. Pours hazy very dark reddish brown color with a small foamy khaki head with poor retention, that reduces to a ring of lace instantly. Ni glass lacing, and a fair amount of alcohol legs. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, licorice, dark bread, earth, light nuttiness, wood, and light bourbon. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity of malty flavors. Taste of big raisin, prune, dried fruit skin, licorice, toffee, molasses, caramel, toast, dark bread, leather, light nuttiness, wood, light bourbon, and earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruits, toffee, molasses, caramel, toast, dark bread, leather, light nuttiness, wood, earth, and light bourbon on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of malty flavors; with almost zero cloying sweetness present on the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial bock style. Great balance and complexity of malt flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Dark brown pour, big aroma of malt and ripe fruit. Flavor is big malt, without being really sweet, with hints of ripe fruit. I love these malty lagers. Mouthfeel is full but not thick. The finish holds up really well with all the flavors. A really enjoyable doppelbock; my favorite style of lagers. Thanks, Jason.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In preparation of the first truly cold day of winter I pulled this 2011 off the shelf last night. heavy pour yields a dark brown body with a dusting of a head that quickly settles to just a ring of light foam about the edgesof the glass. Sip, sip sip, yields a carmel forward big body with central tones of stone fruit (plums mostly) Sweet and a bit cloying. I think I will send Sloth one of these since he is so demanding. Two chapters complete before the ZZZZ monster attacked.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
355 ml bottle. Vintage 2011. From bierkompass.de.
Obviously I’m drinking this too early as it should be bottle conditioned for 5 years. But let’s give it a go. Dark reddish brown colour with small tan head.
Very strong sweet malty aroma with dark chocolate and some caramel sweetness. Flavour is super sweet. Alcohol kicks in quite immediately bringing some berry notes and lots of warmth. This seems to be very strong. This brew is all about the malts. Well this definitely would be Trippelbock (it should be actually Dreifach-Bock) if there was a category like that. Barley Wine? Hmm... ABV? Checked. Maltiness? Checked. Complexity? Hmm... This is quite one dimensional after all. But it’s not bad.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Small brown head. Hazy deep dark red body. Deep earthy marzipan and toffee aroma with caramelly fruity notes. Deep sweet earthy marzipan and brown sugar taste with toffee and cognac notes. Mid-to-full body, shockingly light for such a strong beer. Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Dryish earthy bready marzipan aftertaste with soy sauce and strawberry notes. Lovely! Full of flavour and character, yet extremely drinkable. (0.355l bottle at Schouskjelleren, Oslo.)
