Kuhnhenn Dark Heathen Triple Bock

Bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a muddy brown color with some crimson highlights and an inch thick off-white head that slowly receded to a thick bubbly layer and left some spots of lacing. Aroma of caramel, English toffee, brown sugar, a light fruitiness (red berry and apple), and a bit of alcohol. Smooth, sweet entry with hints of caramel and brown sugar lead into a moderately sweet fruity character (berry and grape) with some soft undertones of chocolate that finishes lightly dry. Low carbonation and a thick, full mouthfeel. While not overly complex, I thought this was a pretty enjoyable. There was a soft tartness, which seemed out of place, so I would drink it sooner rather than later.

Pros: Properly carbonated. Long lasting head. Well hidden alcohol. Seems well balanced and has some complex malt notes.

Cons: Nose only shows trace elements, maybe some dough, brown sugar, toffee. Flavor has nice balance, but could be more vibrant, layered and complex. A touch sour as well.

12oz bottle, copper color, with a beige head, falling quickly, leaving a ring of foam, with a wet winey fruity nose of raisins, plums, figs with some toasty, caramel malt, toffee accents, with a sweet brown sugar alcoholic aroma follows through on a full-bodied palte with a sweet toasted, caramelized malt, winey, fruity character of raisins, figs and plum juice, with a hint of green molasses, with some toffee, fruit cake flavors, and a faint flowery hop leafiness, leading towards a super malty, fruity, warming finish.

A- Pours a deep, dark crimson with very little if any head. S- Smell is very rich and enticing. Caramel, dark fruit, very malty, hard to detect any hop notes. T- Deep and malty, raisins, creamy all the way through. The lack of hops make the deep sweetness a little overbearing. M- Thick and sticky with very little carbonation. D- This is the perfect sipper if your looking for a malty treat, it might be a little too sweet for some.

12 oz Bottle. 7-08. Noses throws up a puckery caramel apple and toasted raisin bread. Spicey, fig-loaded and fresh. Warms alcohols sprinkle the sensory with intoxicating wafts of warm places. This is starting off as the perfect beer for a cold, winter night. Pours a lightly hazed clear solid amber, with orange fringes and a swirl in white. Flavor heads a little downhill, with some supremely sour and puckery malt and then a ton of dry, sourdough pretzel character. There’s a lot going on here, but not much of it is that exciting. Strong raisins and fig alcohols clash with a bit of dying tangy malt and then a swift kick of confused, aged hops. I dunno, it’s not that bad, but it’s definitely got a very strong signature of old, overly strong, poorly bottled Kuhnhenn. It’s funny though, this time it’s not quite the same or as overbearing. This time, it’s a vinous, mature contribution that keeps it alive. It’s not too far over the hill. On the back end are some fleeting nice edges of almond, roasted pork loin, and crispy rosemary toast.Opening up, this beer develops some jammy fruit in the finish, a bit of complex grain, and some nice ihop figures. However, In the end, it just doesn’t strike me as overly complex. Thanks Sean!

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear burnt amber lager with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The aroma is a wonderful, sticky, caramely mess. I love it. Also, vinous, port-like notes layered atop subdued chocolate and a whisper of espresso. Full-bodied and kind of chewy with tingly carbonation. Tastes like a blessed fusion of caramel, chocolate and espresso - almost like one of those ice-cold, gimmicky, summertime espresso drinks. Rich, moderately sweet, malty finish. World class malt head’s dream!

12oz bottle. extra thanks to alexsdad for breaking out a bottle from his own stash since it sold out before we were able to score some of our own... pours dark amber brown, pretty murky with a quickly dissipating head....sweet laiden, liquer soaked dark fruit and sugary nose... flavors of dark caramel and dark fruit with a pungent bite and somewhat boozy. manages to pack a punch. mild carbonation.

Bottle. Pours dark, no head at all. tastes like cough syrup and the same consistency. Nasty stuff.
