Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Dec 20, 2008 Bottle at brewpub dated 7/08. Caramel color with a small head. Flavor is really vineous with some nuttiness. Cant say Im a fan. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 16, 2008 Bottle. Handed to me as we were leaving Kuhnhenn, they really loved that we came from NJ to visit them. Brought home and shared with my beer trip buddies/ Dark brown body with a tan head. Caramel with a dark fruit body, raisin, candi sugar, light vinous flavors big alcohol in the finish with a light woodiness.
dkachur (2315), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy goyrshkewych. Gracias! Also, rating #700. Viscous reddish brown pour with no head. Very faint carbonation. Earthy and malty aroma with some caramel notes. Sweet caramel taste, slightly tart, with dark fruit notes. Not very complex, but still very pleasant. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 17, 2008 Hazy copper with a ruby hint. Sugar and molasses dominate the aroma. Rich enough, but even more syrupy than Samichlaus. Extremely sweet from start to finish and with the same salty notes that extreme dark lagers all seem to be unable to do without. Soy-like, rooty also. Meaty, filling finish. Very liquorous and concentrated, but feels like wort in the end. Cerealic and rough. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Dec 6, 2007 The bottle states "1996-2006", with no other hint of the vintage.
Pours hazy mahogany, with barely a trace of any head that developed. Zero retention or lacework.
Aromatics are a blast of caramelized sweet malt, fusel-like alcohol, and toffee.
Warming on the nostrils, and finishes with lingering malt reduction and vanilla.
The mouthfeel is sticky, syrupy, and chewy. Not enough carbonation to fend off the viscosity.
The pallet is as promised by the nose. Plenty of sweet malt, caramelized sugars, and toffee syrup. The alcohol profile is a bit harsh and solvent-like. Hot on the throat, and warming to the point of stinging on the tongue.
Finishes with a continual onslaught of malt extract, with plenty of sharp alcohol notes that cut through. GRM (1235), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Oct 15, 2007 Sample, at the Mondial de la bière 2007, savoured June 1 2007; eye: dirty brown, no effervescence, clear, no head; nose: soya sauce, caramelized malt, light hops; mouth: caramelized malt, soya, finale in caramelized malt, full body, velvety, not much carbonation, quite salty; overall: quite good

Aroma of caramel malt and alcohol vapors, this reeks of abundant residual sugar. The flavor is very sweet, way too sweet for my taste and it gets sticky in the mouth, the sweetness remins me of maple I feel like brushing my teeth after every sip, there is a caramel malt presence and alcohol but the sweetness takes control of the taste buds. The body is light to medium with a liquorous, sticky textrure and gentle carbonation. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Name: Dark Heathen
