4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011 vintage bottle pour..medium to dark cola like hue..not getting much of the red tint as indicated on bottle..nose is quite intense with all kinds of things happening..they all seem to mold together to produce a memorable aroma..wood..vanilla..black cherry.dark fruit..mouthfeel is unique as expected..surprisingly slick..malty sweetness hits and then comes a slight wave of sourness to keep everything in check..surprisingly fairly medium bodied.very little notice of the extremely high abv on sip but it does provide some warming heat on the lingering finish..happy to score this rare bottle from deciccos a while back...busted out for 300..

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at MBGSF 2013. Pours a dark copper amber with an off-white head. Fruity caramel aroma, hinting of bourbon. Grainy wheat flavors, caramel, candy fruit, again bourbon-like flavors. Good, but a bit too much graininess.

7/13/13. 12oz bottle thanks to mibirder! Rich red amber pour with a small tan head. Rich malty caramel aroma with a similar flavor but a surprising roast/burnt bite, almost burnt toast or burnt caramel. Not bad!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
It was hard to see any red highlights in the color of the beer, which looked very dark brown/blackish. It had very little foam -- just a trace of a dark tan head along the side of the glass.
The aroma was very malty, a bit sherried, a little alcohol all mixing with dark dried fruit aromas, a sweet malty toffee note and some estery notes.
The beer drank very thick and viscous, with a good dose of bitterness through the sweet malty backbone, and that pleasant sort of oxidation that adds more to the beer than it takes away.
This is a nice sipping beer or desert treat. Though it might benefit from a few years of mellowing -- to round out the flavors a bit. $9 for a 12-ounce bottle might seem pretty steep for this one, but perhaps in 2 years time that price will seem justified!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of chocolate, earth, anise, fennel, caramel, cinnamon and a lot of nice and smooth alcohol. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with a great anise and caramel sweetness right behind. Aftertaste shows a good malt note, some sweet chocolate notes and decent complexity, all with a very smooth alcohol note and a nice finish. Overall, a great beer with a lot of alcohol but seems like a lot less, all with some good flavours and relatively good complexity. Great to try and although expensive, well worth the money. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 09-June-2012 for US$7.00 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 05-July-2013.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013 vintage bought at this weekend's Summer Solstice release. Pours a dark ruby red with a 1/2 finger head that goes quickly. Super sweet candied malt ,dark cherry and plumb aroma with slight alcohol. Initial sweet caramelized malt beginning, then a blast of tangy, dark cherries. Lingering dark cherry aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with zero carbonation. Syrupy and sticky. This beer is similar to a thin port wine. An after dinner sipper for sure. Certainly worth a try if you can find it. Different, but very good. Not your average lager....

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355 ml bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam and shared at a local tasting. Vintage 2011. Pours an opaque prune juice color. Prunes, raisins, dates and perfume on the nose. Pungent flavors of salty, sweet dried fruits and sufficient bitterness to avoid it becoming sickening. Full bodied and syrupy. Long and full finish.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Pours black as Coke, no head at all. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits and lots of syrup. Taste is almost sickening sweet, bordering cloying, but lands on the tolerable side,

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
355 ml bottle, vintage 2011, kindly shared by abemorsten. ABV is 12.5%. Dark brown colour, minimal head. INTENSE sweetish malty aroma, bordering on "sickly". Strong oaky notes too, hints of liquorice. Low carbonation. Very malty flavour, sweet and oaky but not extreme - however, the maltiness is not balanced by sufficient hops.
