rayg1 (433), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Aug 25, 2007 Bottle that Ross shared with me. Thanks for letting me try this rare beer! Poured out dark brown with almost no head at all. Aroma is a punch in the face of alcohol but then hazelnuts overwhelm the nostrils at the end. Taste is again more hazelnuts but also some brown sugar and caramel detected to balance it all out. Once this baby got to nearly room temperature this became a VERY well balanced nutty/sweet doppelbock and the alcohol was much better hidden. Very very good stuff. Thanks again Ross! ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Aug 25, 2007 Bottle that someone sent me I dont even know when. Pours out a dark brown color with a small little brown head that quickly goes away. Smell is full of alcohol upon first sniff, but it quickly gives way to a really good nutty flavor. Some sweet caramel malts are present as well. The taste is really good, much better as the beer gets warmer. Cold this beer is an alcohol bomb. As it warms up it is a rich, smooth, very pleasing doppelbock. Good stuff, I wish I could remember who sent this to me. Whoever it was, thanks. 2006 bottle. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 29, 2007 Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer day June 07. Shared with Bartzilla, Naven, WeeHeavySD and others. Split between a bunch of people, I didn’t get too much of this but I didn’t need it. Interesting mix of sweety maltiness with a sour kick. sticky mouthfeel. something to be siped and savored. Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Jul 2, 2007 Dark, sweet, strong, tasty. This beer is jet black, and smells divine. The flavor is strong on some smoke and has an almost soy sauce like finish. I haven’t had many triple bocks in my time, but this is pretty good. Definitely a sipper. This is the beer that began my decent downhill. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 2, 2007 Beer 9 of Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer Tasting 6/30/07. Shared with Bartzilla, Naven, BikesandBeer and others. 12oz bottle with 1999 and 2006 written on it. Poured dark brown with no head, aroma was sweet and gnarley. The taste was sweet, malty and packs a huge kick in the ass. Another tasty potent brew from Kunhenn, Dave thanks for scooping this up on your trip to Ann Arbor. unibrouefan (124), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 21, 2007 Mondial de la bière de Montréal 2007. Medium to dark caramel-mahogany color, little head, unfiltered and hazy....enormous malty-caramel nose, touches of vanilla and cinnamon, very light earthy-clay tones evident with some warmth, enveloping and overwhelming....fairly typical doppelbock profile on the tongue, sweet front and slightly drier towards the finish, lots of caramel and a bit of semi-sweet cherry...alcohol not really apparent; carbonation quite low....only real problem is that the finish is a bit papery and dull. Still, another fine effort in the super-heavyweight class. Radek Kliber (3930), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Jun 10, 2007 Bottle at Mondial 2007.
Dark amber falling into brown, minimal top which is resonable at over 13 %. Fine minimal carbonation below.
Strong rich malty aroma, clean potent alcohol secondary attraction. Woody, brown malts .Aroma a bit of Baltic Porters from Poland just not as dark and roasty. Smooth soft aroma at this strength is highly remarkable.
Extremely thick, full bodied syrup like texture, oily. Sweet middle with semi dry alcohol. Good smooth finish. Perhaps slightly too sweet at this stage but give it few more years …
