Double Rice India Pale Ale. This gold colored West Coast style Double India Pale Ale has an intense hop nose, with aromas mainly of citrus. The high hop character dominates this IPA’s flavor pro-file. Made with American long grain rice, it is quite difficult to make but the rice con-tributes to this beer’s crisp aftertaste.

The taste of malt blends with the ever present citrus undertones The hops are so distinct but yet present an overall balance with the sugars- and the complex fruit balances any caramel which could predominate. Remarkably smooth and creamy for such an intensely hopped beer . A true awakening, and might I say "reward" for the palate.

Dark gold pour with a loose white head. Lots of fresh ruby red grapefruit aroma with hints of orange zest and lemon, toast and caramel. The flavor is pungent grapefruit and citrus with dashes of black pepper and pine, some savory bubblegum, sake, and toast in the middle and end with a strong catty finish. Creamy, medium full body with soft carbonation.

Tap at 4th Ave. Pub. Amber pour. The nose is really quite fresh and loaded with lots of bright pine and citrus. A touch of light tropical fruit as well, but mostly dominated by pine. A touch of light citrus, although the body seems to be thinned pretty nicely. Rich, sweet, chewy and quite hoppy. Just a bright, fresh IIPA… not a whole lot to complain about.

Cask. Pours gold with a thin head. Hoppy aroma, florals and pine. The flavor has crisp citric and piny hops, with a light malty sweetness. Nice.

Draft pint at the brewpub. What a beauty ... Light orange and pillowy. Beautifully hoppy and citric, quite full-bodied. Big beer that manages to be light in character, too, and deceptively strong. Exceptional. (#3818, 1/25/2010)

On draft at Uptown Grill. Pale golden color, floral hop aroma. Flavor strong of floral and herbal hops, running over an interesting undercurrent of a flavor that maybe is from the rice? Has a finish that is strangely sticky-sweet.

On tap in semi-clean tulip at 4th Ave Pub. Orange with quickly dissipating white head. Orangy citrus hop and cake aroma. Orange honey cracker (rice cakes?) sweet fruitiness with fairly assertive citrus resin hop bitter finish. Didn’t seem necessarily dryer and crisper than other good ipas. Pretty good.
