COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Rice India Pale Ale. This gold colored West Coast style Double India Pale Ale has an intense hop nose, with aromas mainly of citrus. The high hop character dominates this IPA’s flavor pro-file. Made with American long grain rice, it is quite difficult to make but the rice con-tributes to this beer’s crisp aftertaste.

sampled at MSBF....pours a hazy apricot brown with a medium off-white head...sweet tropical fruit hoppy nose that was assertive and refreshing... flavors were a continuation of the same with an added sticky sweetness white still maintaining the hop presence. smooth mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2010 Tap at the brewery. Golden/amber with frothy white head that dissipates. Aroma of citrus and grass, with biscuity sweet malt. Taste is bitter and lightly sweet. Lighter in mouthfeel than most DIPA’s, crisp and clean. Nice! Update 12/11/10: Got a 1/4 barrel for home - delicious mix of sweet caramel malt and grapefruit/mango hops. Smooth and delicious.

Draft… RBSG 2010… Clear golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. The aroma is an intoxicating elixir of tropical fruit (guava-mango), spicy grains and earthy simcoe hops – cat piss comes to mind. Medium to full-bodied and somewhat oily with tingly carbonation. The flavor scores highly for originality. It’s like drinking root beer while chewing a stick of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum. Odd, but the combination totally gets it done for me. These hops and malts work really well together. Sweet, but not cloyingly so. The hops are more flavorful than bitter. Finishes bittersweet and candy-like.

On tap at MBGSF 2010. Nice citrus hop aroma, probable simcoe. Clean and crisp. Light orange-brown color. Flavor is very fruity, lots of hops, simcoe, I think there is some rice in the aroma, but not so much in the mouth. Light, though, probably from the rice. Seems the rice is working for body and not really flavor.

Keg at the RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a hazy amber color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Hugely citrus aroma... grapefruit, lemongrass, candied citrus. The taste is similar... candied citrus, grapefruit, lemon, caramel. Medium bodied. Very nice beer.

In short: A tasty, dirty and resinous bitter IPA. Not refreshing. Just ok
How: From a 12oz bottle. Montreal’s Mondial beerfest 2010
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: The nose is mostly hoppy with a resinous and slightly citrusy signature. Adequately malted with a whole-wheat bread and salad croutons sensation in caramel. Some fruity notes of oranges and candied apples. Sweetness level is moderate. Moderate bitterness with a sticky resinous sensation. Not refreshing. Far from clean and crisp this is rather dirty beer. Decent brew but nothing special. I sure did not get anything special flavor-wise from the Double Rice, whatever this means. I’m not sure what the rice is supposed to bring here. But like the other dude said “Rice is great when you’re hungry and want to eat 2000 of something”.

Smells pretty good. Fruity, some malt. This is nice. Flavor is a little thin in the middle, but smooth and tasty. Certainly doesn’t seem so strong. Had on tap at Peace Love Hoppy-ness festival at Big Dogs in Las Vegas. Great first beer from these guys.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a thick white head. Aroma of sweat, grassy hops, and citrus. Flavor of hop oils, sweat, and lots of sweet malt and residual sugars. It was very sweet after awhile and some acetone notes came out as well. Hmm, just didn’t like this one, much too sweet for me. 7/4/6/2/11 [3.0/5]
