12oz Bottle. Pours a murky cocoa brown with a fine layer of foam floating around. Aroma is mostly yeast and faint roasted malt. Body is a bit watery with low carbonation. Flavor is a bit weak, lightly sweet a hint of clove. Overall weak for the style. Not impressed.

12oz bottle picked up at the brewpub. 2011 Summer Solstice. Pours a murky brown colored body with a finger-width, fizzy, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. Aroma is yeasty with some banana and clove as well as some band-aid. A light caramel and wheat graininess with a bit of a sourness. Flavor is similar. A bit sour up front before a thin caramel and wheat comes in. A light yeast towards the finish with a hint of banana and clove. Finishes with some band-aid and no bitterness before leaving a short aftertaste. Thin body and light carbonation. Overall, not a very good beer. Some band-aid and sourness mixing with a pretty boring flavor.

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Umami-heavy and oxidized olive bread aroma. odd. A distant Dunkelweizen impression. Why do so many Kuhnhenn beers have this underlying plain tanginess to them. It’s not infection, but more like a sour mash feel. Odd and not enjoyable here. The darker flavors here hint at soy and sherry. Not carbonated enough and feeling too sweet. Messy.

Sampled at an esbla tasting. Dark brown with little head. A butter aroma with malt. More diactyl in the flavor. Infected. Not good.

Bottle courtesy of Huhzubendah. Served in a Bruery tulip. Pours a slightly muddy moderate brown color with a thin off-white head and some fairly-good lacing. Nose carries notes of light toast and bread plus just a touch of German yeast, bringing moderate clove and mild banana. Flavor is fairly malty with a bit of yeast. Nothing bad, but nothing all that exciting either. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Decent, but not a great take on the style.

Bottle; pour is murky golden brown; The nose shares the same banana yeast note that the hefeweizen offers; coupled with a bit of caramel. Caramel, Wheat, Banana, Candied sugar rounds out the flavor profile. Its a nice drinker, but perhaps a little sweet for me. Anyway - another interesting wheat from Kuhnhenn

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2011 bottle picked up by Olga... ugly dirty medium brown, light tope head, forms a small ring... super sweet, tons of banana, spice cloves a bit of wheat and molasses, a touch to strong but solid... the taste is calmed down, much more balanced, huge banana finish, very creamy, a banana smoothie, a nice caramel base... really great, easily one of the best dunkel’s I’ve had

On tap at Summer Solstice 2010. Pours medium brown. Fine lacing. Served way too warm, probably close to 60F. Kinda bland. Mild caramel flavors, subdued nose. Drinkable but unremarkable. I’ll try it again to make sure my palate wasn’t blown out by the other beer I had today, but I’m not optimistic.

It’s not retired, it’s on tap now at Kuhnhenn. Pours a dark brown with tan head. Aroma of toasted malt. Taste is roasted malt, light hops, dark fruit, and wheat. Medium bodied and crisp, very smooth. Very good beer!
