On-tap at the pug, poured into a 6oz tasting glass...The beer is a dark copper that is too murky for the style. Lots of head but its light and whispy, doesn’t look good...The aroma is dead, thought it was dormant but nothing arrives...The taste just sucks, my least favorite beer of the day. There is too much toffee that dominates, stale hops, just boring. Skip.

I assume this goes here (ESB). On tap at the Kuhnhenn’s Brew Pub. Poured a medium amber color with a small sized head. Aromas and tastes of citrus, some floralness, and lightly earthy. Lighter fruitiness in the tastes too.

On tap at the brewery. Weak aroma of hops. Weak flavor of hops and malt. The palate is light and soft.

Draught at Kuhnhenn. Pours a clear amber with a small diminishing white head. Fairly mild aroma of UK hops, caramel malt and fruit. Flavour stars sweet with caramel malt and fruit and finishes with UK hops. Light to medium bodied. Pretty good.

Draught sample at the brewpub. Nice amber colour. Aroma is malty and earthy, with a bit of dung/barnyard that sort of turned me off. Flavour of sweet, grainy malt with some mild hops in the finish. This one didn’t do much for me.

Draught at the brewpub (or was it on cask?). Very malty, earthy, roasty aroma - excellent. Amber pour, white head. Nice sweet taste: very sticky toffee with appropriate English hops. Medium to thick body. A very good interpretation of the style, I really enjoyed it.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2006 Draught. At the brewpub with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev. Slightly hazy pale amber, white head. Aroma of herbal hops and toasty caramel malt. Taste is grain, caramel malt - sweet and syrupy, unremarkable palate/mouthfeel - just okay, a little syrupy for my taste, but it finishes a little hoppy.

Amber body, small white head. Sweet bits of caramel, light diacetyl. Similar flavour, buttery diacetyl notes are bit more than might be appropriate for the style. Average palate. I assume Bret is a person since there was definitely no bret in the beer.

On tap at the brewpub on 4/27/06: Pours a clear copper amber with a thin wispy-lacing white head. Sweet crystal malty nose has decent English hoppy balance. First sip is of nice subtle caramel sweetness, turning more dry and bittersweet toward the finish.
