Commercial Description:
Boiled for 23 hours, yielding around 30 gallons of beer, extraneous ale was then transferred to a bourbon barrel where it will spend 6 months before being released. Fermented with a lager yeast at ale temperatures. ABV is, at this point, an estimate.

From my backlog. 2005 vintage. Amazing nose! Huge caramelization and amongst the best legs I’ve even seen in a beer. The taste just lingers for minutes after the finish. Very vinous and cognac-like with bits of grape, dark chocolate and toffee. At 17.5% (estimated), there’s a bit of alcohol present, but the gigantic body really keeps it from getting out of control. Amazing at the technique that must have been involved to get this to turn out so well.

A- Pours a ruddy brown hue with little to no head. Doesn’t seem to be very much carbonation left. S- I could smell this from the moment the cap came off! Huge raisin, plum, fig smell followed by a stinging alcohol. It reminds me of sam adams triple bock in a good way. T- Taste was very dark fruit, lots of plum and fig like in the nose, very sweet in the end and fades into alcohol. It warms as it goes down. Theres a very distinct sweet tartness that hits hard in the begining and lingers at the end that I can’t quite put my finger on. Definitely tastes nowhere near 17 percent. M- Thick with very little carbonation. Works well for the style. D- My overall impression? This was by far the most experimental and extreme brew i’ve tried by Kuhnhenn and I think they pulled it off nicely. I couldn’t see myself coming back to this one much if I had the chance but I loved trying it. This brewery definitely pushes the limit.

Dark mahogany, slightly hazy, no head. Big alcohol kick up front, followed by tons of chocolate and mollasses. Flavor, again tons of chocolate and mollasses, faint fruity background, hard to pinpoint. Drinks like a cordial, alcohol is overbearing at times. Sort of reminds me of triplebock, w/o the soy sauce.

Bottle from Styles. Light carbonation release with opening. Brownish colored and fairly clear. No head. Has some legs when swirled. Bourbon and woody notes mix with some leather. Full bodied, coating with no perceptible carbonation. Burnt caramel/sugar, light bitterness perhaps. Warming without being offensive. Vanilla and bourbon tastes as it warms. Tasty, not something I would want much of but well crafted.

bottle.....poured a muddled medium to dark brown with no head whatsoever....very assertive bourbon notes in the nose paired well and sweet caramel and brown sugar.....flavors continue along the same path. very big on the rich caramel , a little chocolate, and bourbon. little carbonation. mouthfeel was medium to full. very nice all around and a very good sipper.
