COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boiled for 23 hours, yielding around 30 gallons of beer, extraneous ale was then transferred to a bourbon barrel where it will spend 6 months before being released. Fermented with a lager yeast at ale temperatures. ABV is, at this point, an estimate.

12 oz.bottle. Pours a clear brown color with a thin beige ring. The aroma was very sweet caramel malts, ripe fruits, a hint of bubblegum with some old leather. The flavor was again very sweet with caramel and ripe fruits throughout. I didn’t get the full 18% with this, but there was no doubt it was big. Slick, oily texture. Not one of my favorites from Kuhnhenn.

(12oz bottle from Rayl101!. 15.5% abv). Pours a dark mahogany color with a thin off-white head that rings the rim of the glass. Aroma is dried fruit, candied sugar, caramel, some vanilla. Taste is sweet with the lager yeast definitely giving this barleywine a different profile. Lots of dried fruit flavors here. Medium bodied with a sticky texture. Smooth and sweet. This is pretty good stuff and the abv is hidden quite well.

Pours an extremely rich and clean burnt copper with wisps of sandstone tan head. Very rich and dense nose, lots of dark fruit and spice. Dessertish with a port-like quality, notes of prune and other dried fruit, sweet bread, alcohol helps carry those aromatics out. Flavor lacks some of the complexities of the nose. Definitely rich with a heavy showing of dark fruits, prune and raisin. About as much heat as expected at 15.5%. Full round body and coating palate.

Bottle, thanks emacgee for sharing. Butterscotch, vanilla, spicy wood, Flavor is more fruity but lots of sugary sweetness, more vanilla, lots of caramel. Full, warm palate. Alcohol pretty well hidden considering.

2010 bottle, 15,5%. From secret santa. Dark brown color. Malt, dried figs and alcohol in the aroma. Very sweet, malty, warming alcoholic flavor with dried figs, dried red fruit and some distant floral hops. Full bodied. Sticky. A bit too much of everything.

11oz bottle. Dark fruits, molassess and light malt make up the aroma. Hazy, very dark brown in appearance with no head. Medium palate. Slightly hot in taste with plenty of licorice, anice, and dark malts. Hotter as it warms up to room temperature.

09 vintage in a recent trade. The alcohol percent on my bottle was also 15.5% I think. Oh well, either way, a lot of effing alcohol and not very well melded into an overall drinkable beer. Maybe I wasn’t expecting a leathery, soy sauce, dark fruit mess but it was still pretty hard to drink and for the first time in a long time I was not looking forward to swallowing a whole 12oz of something. There are some good aspects to this thing. It is deep. It is complex. It is incredibly full bodied. How that all comes together though is a little jumbled and no one particularly delicious piece shines through.Dark ruby color. Soy sauce and leather aroma. Prune, alcohol, tobacco, spice in the flavor. Just too much.

Glouglouburp (4783) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 27, 2011
In short: A leathery boozy fruity mess. Brutally bad.
How: Bottle 12oz. 2010 vintage, consumed when approximately 6 months of age. Shared by and with Douglass88
The look: Clear ruby body topped by a tiny off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose is like a leather belt socked in alcohol and red liquorice candies. Taste is very fruity with red berries, kiwis, prunes and more, all wrapped in oily caramel. Way too much alcohol. Lots of leather. Some peanuts oil. Body is oily and very sticky. This is bourbon barrel aged but I didn’t taste bourbon. Something very leathery about this beer. That beer sucked ass, I drained pour half my glass. With Extraneous being a synonym for Inappropriate, one cannot blame Kuhnhenn for not being a honest brewer

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 27, 2011
Sample at Brew Kettle in Strongsville. The beer is a cloudy amber-brown color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes to a film eventually. Aroma of dark fruits, vanilla and malt. Medium, smooth body with flavors of ripe fruit, caramel malt and vanilla. The finish is fruity with a touch of alcohol and a sweet caramel aftertaste. A little disjointed overall but enjoyable enough.
