Draft. Very dark brown appearance, small tan colored foamy head, coffee aroma, sour cherry and bitter coffee beans taste, low carbonation, lomg finish. Nice stout.

Pours a jet black with a foamy off-white head that dissipates to an off-white lacing. Aroma is roast, coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor is semisweet chocolate, roast, and coffee. Character is similar to a dry stout. Great malty flavor. Delicious.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, caramel and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long licorice, coffee and chocolate finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at Church Key, DC. A more or less black one, topped by a dense beige head. The aroma is rather roasted, almost burnt, with some dark dried fruit. Itís super smooth in the mouth, full bodied and semi-dry. Roasted malts, dark chocolat, some coffee grit and a roasted malt kind of bitterness in the lasting finish. Perhaps a bit sweet and burnt, but itís a fine brew indeed. 150620

Nice stuff. Lits of musky peat like roast with hints of smoke. Well balanced. Bitter finish. Hints of coffee. Black pour without much head or lacing. Tap at Churchkey.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 Tap @ Kuhnhenn: Dark as hell, completely black with no light shining through. Head is a few shades deeper than tan, slow to form, & quick to settle as a thick ring around the glass. Moderate lacing. Super roasty aroma. Burnt malts, char, strong nuttiness, faint smoke, espresso, & the lightest hint of cream-like sweetness hidden way in the periphery. Flavor is a nice 50/50 mix of burnt, roasted malts & hefty, woodsy nuts. Moderate char, scorched coffee beans, & burnt brown sugar adds just a hint of sweetness. Back-end opens up with light notes of licorice & dark plum. Ashy, roasty, charcoal finish with a touch of booze coming through for warmth. Hearty, robust, creamy mouth feel. Good stuff.

Had on-tap at the Kuhnhenn Brewery as part of a paddle. Appearance: Well... black. Tan head. Nice lacing. This one really looks like what youíd expect from a stout. The lacing on Export Stout is quite nice. Smell: Ashy, roasty, chocolate+coffee. It smells slightly different than other stouts Iíve had before... maybe thatís just because I havenít had an export stout before. Smells interesting, and actually pretty good. Taste: Almost exactly like the aroma as far as the ash and roastiness... the coffee and chocolate notes are there, but only in a complimentary way. I was expecting this to be a really bitter beer, but it actually had a decent sweetness in there (chocolate?) that I enjoyed. Itís definitely a touch bitter, but I liked that a lot... I was in the mood for a slightly bitter stout, and this did it for me. The real kicker (yes, Iíve gone Guy Fieri on you) is the mouthfeel... creamy and satisfying. Best stout Iíve ever had? Nope, but itís a tasty offering by Kuhnhenn. Worth a try. And then another. And maybe another...
