4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2008 Vintage. Pours a rusty hazy sienna color with two fingers of khaki foam. The nose is sweet yet rustic... lots of toffee, leather, tobacco, brown sugar and date fruit. The palate follows the nose with great balance and lots of complexity. Really old leather backbone with some fruit touches and a lot of buckwheat honey, brown sugar and caramel. Great long finish.

Insanely intriguing aroma with a dark and dirty pour, intense taste and very complex aftertaste.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma - Sweet malt, alcohol, and fruit-basket, jams (marmalade?) and chocolate? Perhaps some sherry, sweet vermouth.
Appearance - Heavy brown-red. Mostly flat with some head retention.
Taste - Sweet, cherry cough-drop, caramelized flavours, burnt orange peel, fruits and toffee and chocolate
Palate - Thick mouthfeel, quite sweet, sticky, end is LONG, bitter orange, toffee cream liqueur.
Overall - That finish is really something. Like a good Campari. Quite the sipper.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark brown coloured body with a ruby glow, some violet highlights and a nice very fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, raisins, nuts, earth, pears, peaches, a hint of light peat and a lot more caramelised sugars. Full-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour with a pungent bite, some light peat notes, a bunch of earth and honey and a little caramel to finish it off. Aftertaste shows a good complexity with the sugars and alcohol warmth, but the beer is just focused on sweetness, alcohol and earthy malt. Overall, quite a bit different than the Barrel-Aged version (sampled in parallel) with more of a taste of a barley wine (theoretically an old, if you stretch it) and a solid beer - not exceptional, but nice to sample. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Beer Baron in Livonia, Michigan on 30-April-2011 for US$5.99 sampled in conjunction with the Barrel-Aged version on 18-May-2013 celebrating a Detroit victory over Chicago in Game #2 of the 2013 NHL Playoffs. Beer #8 of my 4000rating extravaganza (of 9 total). 2010 Bottle

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
i think this has to be a later vintage than 2005 .?.. more like 2012 or something, is that possible ? obtained at delirium ( brussels) . shared with ships and the gang. ( that sounds like a good music-group, doesn’t it ? )
pours brown, brwon-grey foam. sugary-looking carbo ,
taste is sweeeet. sugary, yet fairly complex. not realy thick, yet not thin at all either... just the perfect in between ( mouthfeel-wise) .
ships decribed it as a ’mix between stout and quad’ wich i can pretty much agree to, yet , so far, i like a quad OR a stout more than an old ale. yet its pretty intresting stuff !

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours cloudy brown with a beige head. Aroma of a lot of sweet malts, light vanilla, some weird savory notes, and light hops. Flavor about the same. Smooth texture. A good beer, but a little overwhelming (side by side with the barrel-aged version, it can’t compare).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
355 ml bottle, 13.5% ABV. Pours a dark copper, small caramel head with poor retention, no lacing. Aroma is sweet and fresh: tons of caramel, licorice, dates, raisins, floral, alcohol. Taste is very sweet and smooth: caramel, spices, raisins, dates, licorice. Almost flat, some hops bitterness in the aftertaste.
