4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a hazy mahogany brown with a short lived head that fades to virtually nothing. The aroma is malty sweet, burnt sugars, chocolate, ripe dark fruit, anise, and alcohol. The flavour is pretty much an exact replica of all that. Solid beer.

From flandersned...Thanks, Steve! 2011 bottle says 13.5%. Deep cloudy brown, light carbonation, no head or lacing. Boozy nose with sweet dried Mediterranean fruits (grapes, dates, figs). Taste much the same...thick, sweet, and boozy.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks to czar for this one! Pours a dark brown with no head or lacing. Aroma of alcohol, tobacco and molasse. Taste is really sweet but not cloying with a lot of alcohol heat. Flavors of brown sugar and spices, maybe some licorice. Body is full, mouthfeel is sticky. Low carbonation but I see that as a good thing. Light alcohol tingle. A really nice olde ale! Of course the BA version is great but this one is just as great!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011. Dark mahogany with scant, tan head, little lacing / Sweet nose of dark fruit, caramel, coffee, chocolate, spice, bourbon barrel? / Full body, chewy, creamy, sweet but with fine balance, bitterness on the finish peaking out from underneath, and some alcohol burn / Flavors of fresh caramel, raisin, date, licorice, molasses, chocolate, hazelnut, cinnamon, nutmeg / Great, great stuff. Would be interesting to try in a few more years.

Wow! 2011 bottle. Tastes almost exactly like a BCBS with a touch more caramel and a touch less bourbon. Excellent beer.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
355ml bottle [2011 vintage]. Fantastic, clear, ruby red glowing dark brown colour with late awakening, very small, frothy, moderately lacing, beige head, leaving a thin layer. Intense malty aroma with caramel and toffee notes. Taste is initially moderately sweet malty, notes of caramel and toffee, nougat, later more dry notes with a nuttily touch, some bitter almond, some alcohol in the long lasting finish; very oily texture, extremely soft and fairly sticky palate. Rich and complex, wonderfully soft.
