Brewed 12/2003, bottled 7/2004. Pours dark brownred with a small tan head. Sharp malt aroma with notes of spices, orange, pineapple, some alcohol and chocolate cookie - full, biding and warming. Nice chocolate and pineapple flavor. Quite sweet and candied, very full-bodied and biding. A very nice beer that warms you inside.

Dark brown amber with film of beige head. Caramel, currant and herbal aromatics. Complex malt flavors with an old fruit character. Finish is alcohol with residual spicy hop notes. Mouthfeel is fairly chewy and sticky.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BBB63 (5039) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JUN 11, 2005
Deep coppery hue with an initial large frothy beige head which fades into a small covering and produced very good coating on the snifter. The aroma has notes of rich caramel and amber malts, currant, port, mocha, spicy and herbal hops, and walnut. Wow the taste is wonderful balance of dark fruits, hop spice, caramel malts, and aged wood nature, Undertones of chocolate, vanilla, and sea salt peek about for added depth. Oh so yummy! The mouthfeel is sharp and herbal, not heavy but not weak either, works well among the framework of the brew, alcohol is just too damn well hidden! Kudos to the Kuhnhenn brothers for this is one top notch brew...hum Raspberry Old Ale anyone?
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 10, 2005
Bottle: brewed on 8/01/04. Rich sweet, malty, hoppy aroma like a barley wine. My bottle of fourth dementia says 11% ABV, not 9.5% like this page says. Dark, reddish amber; uniformly murky. Exquisite color. Small off-white, almost tan head that is mostly and quickly diminishing. Not much lace. I wont detract on the head or lace due to the high ABV. Upon the pour I wasn’t sure there would be any head. It took awhile for the carbonation to fight its way through the thick churning liquid to the top to form a head. I was trying to figure out what beer to start with tonight between this, Dark Horse Special Resever Black Bier, Founders Breakfast Stout, DFH Immort or New Holland the Poet. I wanted to start out light and work my way up. I guess this wasn’t the beer I thought it would be. Most definitely a barley wine in character. Very rich and flavorful. Extremely well done. I love it when I travel some place, do my research, and it pays dividends like this. Caramel and chocolate notes. I love the fact that the label posts its "best before" date as 2010! As far as descriptions, Jacob Lövenlund pretty much hits it on the head.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Ungstrup (24024) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 10, 2005
A deep red-brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is malty with strong notes of chocolate and alcohol, combined with lesser roated notes - nice. The flavor is lovely alcoholic - burning the mouth, but also notes of oranges and wood with a thick mouthfeel - leaning towards a portwine. Lovely.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 madsberg (7570) - Søborg, DENMARK - JUN 8, 2005
Bottled july 2004: Dark brown/red coloured. Brown dense head. Liqourice, light grass and spice in the aroma. Fruit, light alcohol, sugary and malty flavour. This is some complex shit. Is smooth and balanced. Ends on a portlike note. Alcoholburnt on lips and palate. This is a very good brew.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hildigöltur (5107) - København, DENMARK - JUN 7, 2005
Bottled. Brewed December 2003. Bottled July 2004. Thanks Clark. Reddish brown coloured. Loads of dark fruits, prunes, dades, maltand soy sauce in the aroma. Extremely sweet and syrupy. Full bodied and complex. Loads of caramel. Very good, but a bit on the sweet side for my tastebuds.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Mangino (1027) - Mississippi, USA - JUN 7, 2005
Pours a dark red/brown color. Small rim of head around the edge. Aroma is full of fruit and nuts. Alcohol, ala brandy. Flavor is rich, and warming. Lots of malt and sweetness, reminds me of an english barleywine. Vanilla, cherries, caramel malt. Very nice! Thanks to Styles for this one!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mds (2119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 21, 2005
draught at the brewpub. aroma of caramel malt, sugar, and a touch of alcohol. murky burgundy body with a small white head. heavy sweet malty body. I was sipping on this great beer for a good 45 minutes! alcohol flavour is quite evident but really only provides positive qualities to it. as it warms up it increases in complexity with notes of bitter-sweet chocolate. very nice.
