Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

12 oz bottle. 2013 vintage. Holy smokes. The pour is like muddy lake water. There is no head to be found and as such, no lace either. The aroma is extraordinarily complex. There is a beautiful sweet toffee or caramel with dark fruits galore and a wonderful apple cider character. There are dominant figs and a light marshmallow-ey note. The flavor is just as complex. It starts off like the cider and roars through the labyrinth of dark fruits. The toffee comes through strong on the back end. The mouth feel is perfect. Thick, minimal carbonation, the flavors coat and cling to the tongue. The finish is a touch dry, with a light warming from the 13.5% ABV. Overall just an amazing beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Incredibly rich beer. Very thick and viscous in the mouth, definitely a dessert beer. Caramel, toffee, some charred marshmallow, and warm booziness. A touch of bitterness comes through and the finish lingers and leaves the tongue coated.

2013 vintage. 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. Huge thanks Tom! Pours a dark red/brown that lets through a little light. Thin khaki edging. Nose is huge dark fruits. Raisins and dates with gobs of toffee and caramel. Some underlying tobacco and light pleasant oxidation. A bit boozy. Taste is much the same. Caramel drenched dark fruits. Bright and big before ending on a lingering tobacco/licorice note. The bourbon barrel version is just about perfect whereas this is a little rough around the edges. Boozy and brash, this is a hell of a sipper.

Dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv fruchtig süß, reife Früchte, Karamell, alkoholisch, genauso ist auch der Geschmack.

"2 oz" bottle pour at SAVOR’s Friday night session. Poured a clear copper color with a very small off-white head. Aroma was notes of toffee, some caramel character, brown sugar. Heat. Flavor was sweet caramel notes, some dried raisin notes. Interesting, but quite boozy. BA version is more mellowed and rounded.

Bottle at Savor. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to try this. It was a big strong beer with lots of strong flavors to boot. Dried fruit, caramel, chocolate, with a nice boozy sweetness at the end. Well balanced and complex.

Bottle from lcbo. Dark brown with ruby highlights and lacing. Caramel toffee and dark fruit aroma. Booze and vanilla too. Dark fruit and caramel in the flavour, vanilla, and booze, but not too much. Bitter boozy finish. Big full body. Great, but I like the bourbon version even better.

Thanks to HisBoyElroy. This one pours a dark apple red. Not much head. The taste is very smooth. The 13.5% is almost not there at all. Extremely smooth. Very drinkable. A big apple skin flavor. A very nice alcohol mouthfeel. Just enough to balance it out. Good stuff.

Bottle. Vintage 2011. Murky deep brown liquid with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, raw sugar, port wine, raisins, sweet alcohol, toffee and pumpernickel. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, toffee, dried fruit and caramel. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Really nice.
