Monger (470), Roscoe, Illinois, USA May 19, 2008 Hand bottled from Mystery Swap 3.0. Pours a dark brown reddish color with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, dates, soy, and toffee. The taste is semi sweet of over ripe fruit, malt and caramel. Has a very nice, rich semi sweet, smooth slight alcohol finish.
durhambeer (525), Durham, USA Oct 5, 2008 Couple of samples from World Beer Fest in Durham. Dang, this was a tasty one. Rich, malty, fruity, and even a bit perfumy with its bitter hops. Not sure what year this was, but I suppose it’s at least almost three years old at this point. Brown pour with small foamy head. Figs and cotton candy were the standout tastes. This was great, and very easy drinking given the alcohol (which Kuhnhenn had listed at 13.5% (not 11%). Not sure if that was a discrepancy or just a different batch. Very, very good. CelticBrew (496), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Oct 5, 2008 Sampled at WBF in Durham, NC. Poured draft, a dark and dank brown, forming smallish off white foamy head. Aroma of roasted figs, raisins and raw brown sugar. Flavour was of cotton candy with figs, raisins with roasted nuts, ending with a slight hoppyness that gives this beer a unique and memorable character. Mouthfeel was sticky and gives no hint of alcohol, making it truly dangerous and delicious. Bottom line: Superb beer! Gurst (328), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Oct 2, 2008 Very dark, very thick. But not as dark or thick as I expected. Flavors are numerous. Starts with raisin, coffee, and brandy. Moves quickly into whiskey and citrus as the beer heads down. The end is a little spicy, a little fruity, and very toasty. Lingering aftertaste akin to brandy. bleeng (304), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Sep 15, 2008 Bottle thanks to MaltOMeal at the September RB tasting. Pours dark brown with no head. Nose is boozy, whiskey, sweet nose. Taste is sweet but not overpoweringly so, viscous, very alcoholic, nutty. The nose is better than the taste on this one but overall a nice beer. A sipper for sure. Zinister (892), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 9, 2008 Shared by MaltOMeal at the September Houston Tasting. Pours a dark cola with very little head. Nose of brown sugar, rich caramel, oak and whiskey. Flavor is toffee, molasses, piney hops, chocolate and hazlenuts. Rich, creamy palate with soft carbonation and sticky alcohol. Really nice beer that’s very good to share.
