COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

strong yet sweet malty aroma with faint notes of west coast american hops, dark ruby, almost bloodlike with a thin head, strong earthy peat moss initially with a spurt of sweetness before a chewy bitter finish that hints at toffee and burns slightly like a snifter of cognac

Cloudy dark brown beer with a red tinge. Thick tan head. Rich aged malt nose. Softish palate but with a decent carbonated bite. Sweet rich barleywine like malts. Soft and sumptuos with toffee and dark fruits. Finishes soft with sweet and sour malt which lasts well in to the aftertaste. Delicious!

Black of color with a small brown head. An aroma of prunes, raisins, caramel, port, no hops and a lot of sweets. A flavor of sweets, chcolate, malt, raisins, prunes, port and weak hops. A very nice old ale!

355 ml bottle bought @ Ølbutikken. Pours very dark slightly reddish brown with a very small offwhite head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace. Smell is sweet with toffee, alcohol, figs, raisins in rum, vanilla, milk chocolate, almost overripe dark grapes, wood, honey, liquorice root, black pepper, fudge, caramel, port wine and hints of burnt sugar and orange peal. Taste is sweet and malty with sweet dark bread, dark honey, green grapes, wood, bitter chocolate, madeira, orange zest, prunes, figs, calvados, overripe peaches, burnt caramel, overripe pineapple, grass and hints of lemon zest and cloves. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, vinous, boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and sour with madeira, honey, figs, alcohol, wood, grass and orange zest.

Flaske: Rødbrun let mudret øl med et lille skumhoved. Duften er ekstremt sødlig maltet med tørret frugt. Smagen er overraskende frisk ovenpå duften. Igen tørret frugt, portvin og en del humle. God bitterhed. Fantastisk øl.

Bottle @ ØlKonsortiet thanks to Mola_DK. Pours dark chestnut with no head whatsoever. Aroma is huge on leather, fudge and raisins. Huge sweetness in the nose, marshmellow and vanilla. It almost smells bourbon aged, because it as huge vanilla, butterscotch and oxidized notes. A hint of alcohol. Taste is very similar to the aroma, lots of malty sweetness, huge toffee, fudge, butterscotch, raisins, a good amount of alcohol bite, small smoky hint, wood notes. Totally flat in carbonation, sticky and sweet. Tastes good.

It’s hard to find a complaint about this but it is so easy to praise it. Mostly Balanced. Im learning that this is the thinking I love with certain styles of brew...balanced. It is alittle on the sweet side yet it finishes so dry and dark. Loved that. Heavy in the mouth and dark. hardly no head and carbonation wasn’t showing life.
