Great kuhnhenn offering. Poured from growler into a tulip. Dark pour with tan head. Smells a coffee shop and bakery. Drinks surprising light. Seems dry, taste like a frothy cup of coffee with a little bittering aftertaste. Great imp stout, maybe wish it was a little more body.

On tap at the brewery. A great pure black color with a frothy dark bubbly head. A big cocoa puff aroma. A nice roasty chocolate feel. The sugary feel like cocoa puffs comes back in the flavor and feel. A little thin but nice. Good stuff.

Growler, shared by devman171, thanks! Black pour, thin off-white head. Aroma is creamy, milky and full of coffee. Flavor is sweet, creamy, with a hint of coffee and loads of caramel. Smooth and well balanced. Easy going and a bit thin for an imperial stout. But if you drink it as a normal stout it’s lovely.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap, poured into a balloon snifter. The aroma is a warm creme brulee with a heavy dose of coffee. The beer is a dark, clear cola color with an abundant, off-white head that looks thin with large, soapy bubbles that has moderate retention and okay lace. The taste is a medium high chocolate sweet with a medium bitter burnt. The beer is smooth and lightly creamy with a small bubble, soft fizz, and a medium full body. The flavor is a creamy creme brulee with a light toffee and a warm coffee that finishes with a crispness, a hoppy spice, and notes of java. The finish is of a moderate length and tappers off quickly leaving just a light hint of roasted vanilla in the aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, roast, coffee into some burnt sugars, molasses, slight vanilla, touch of dark fruits. Taste was a mix of roast, cocoa powder, dark chocolate into coffee, espresso, slight burnt sugar, toffee, molasses, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter.

Tap at Kuhnhenn. Listed as 8.5%. Black pour with a small creamy head that fades to a nice ring. Aroma is so good. Huge espresso, vanilla, and sweet cream with hint of chocolate syrup and caramel. Tastes awesome too. More roasty than the aroma. Medium roast coffee beans, strong vanilla and cream, some burnt caramel and burnt toast. A hint of chocolate too. Thin body though. If this was thick and creamy it would be up there with my favorites from Kuhnhenn.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2015 Tap @ Kuhnhenn: All black with only a slight touch of dark brown at the veyr edges. Decently retaining, fine-bubbled tan foam sits on top. Aroma is very similar to the non-imperial version; roasted, rich, oily coffee beans up front. More roasty, I’d say. There’s still an underlying cream, milk, & burnt caramel sweetness, but there’s a bit more balancing bitter roast as well. Also a slight touch of booziness in the back-end. Flavor complete with fresh espresso - perhaps a "deeper" & more roasted type coffee profile than its little brother. Still a touch of some vanilla & brown sugar sweetness towards the back-end but it has a larger roast presence to battle. Slightly thicker mouth feel, I think, although it’s hard to say for sure without having them side by side. A hint of alcohol lingers with roasted, bitter coffee beans & a touch of milky cream.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft pour at the source. Pours a dark brown to black with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has hugely sweet creme brûlée with a medium coffee roast. Fairly sweet and toasty. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very good beer.
