CharlesDarwin (1334), State College, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 12oz Bottle. Best before: 05-16-08. Gooey hop nose. A good mingling of hop spices, wet leaves, and flowers. Blended and backed with alcohol and decent caramel. Pours a crystal-clear amber, with an orange fringe and white, soapy rim. Flavor is interesting. There’s a lot of hop flavor, which I greatly appreciate, but it gets washed away somewhat by piquant alcohols and a thin body. Not as chewy as I would have expected with this color. Grapefruit juice lingers. A little bit of dust and lightly old hop resin dot the back end of the beer. A very mild yeast by-product shows mid-palate. Nice hop flavors, but in the end a little watery, dusty-tasting, and alcoholic. Thanks Sean!
dkachur (643), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 25, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy goryshkewych... Thanks George! Best before 5/16/08, so it’s a little past it’s prime. Hazy dark reddish color with almost no head. Almost no bitterness and signs of infection in the aroma. Very malty taste with notes of hops, grain and infection. Almost drinkable, but not quite. Full bodied. There are signs of a good beer here, and I’d love to try this one fresh. 3/3/4/4/9 SQNfan (388), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2008 Copper in color with a moderate whtie head. The nose showed off the malt with lots of caramel and just a hint of floral and herbal hops. In the mouth it is medium-bodied with the caramel showing through again. mattmc1973 (102), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jun 15, 2008 On tap at Kuhnhenn, was amber with a frothy white head and good lacing. Aroma was quite hoppy, with pine and grapefruit. Flavor was moderately bitter, and the beer had a light/medium body and dry mouthfeel. kramer17801 (1846), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2008 12 oz bottle, via amorphiss. Pours a copper body with a one finger tight bubbled beige head. Really nice fruity hoppy nose with tangerine, guava, and just a bit of pine. A good bit of caramel malt backing it up. The flavor is fairly hoppy with a hefty bitterness, especially on the finish. The fruity hops and the sweet malt base really work well together, it makes me think of some type of candied fruit. Nice length to the finish as well. Never harsh at all, each sip makes you want to take another before the finish completely fades. Medium bodied and actually kinda creamy in texture because of the perfect bottle conditioned carbonation. Overall, a really nice drinker, I could have put down a few of these with no problem. kmweaver (1813), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 22, 2008 Growler, courtesy of Schutzenliesel. Thanks, Tom! Pours a bright, ruby-orange color; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Pleasant tropical fruit aroma: watermelons, passion fruit, and strawberries; really soft, resiny hop bitterness and pleasant fruit character; can’t say I can think of anything similar right now; really interesting. Relaxed carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: red fruits (watermelon, cherries); slightly more bitterness than in the nose: citrus, earthy hoppiness, and some chewy fruity malts underneath; some warming alcohol poking through, just a touch. Lengthy finish: watermelon, tropical fruits, and some lingering mineral hops.
