3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   The pour on this is pitch black, cannot even see through the stream of liquid.   Moderate to large frothy beige head, sticky lacing.   Did I mention pitch black?   Very rich roasted malt flavor, heavy soy, some lactose sweetness.   Whoa, quite sweet on the tongue.   Heavy lactose sweetness with an alcoholic soy background.   Has a bright twang to it.   Heavy roasted malts on the backside, after the finish.   Seems fairly clean, albeit this one is all up front with its alcoholic soy punch.   Even seems a bit chalky at the end.   Glad this is in a 12oz format, because anything bigger would be impossible to drink.   While the alcohol isn’t too overbearing, this one is just so big and sweet and roasty that it wears you down.   Okay, this is starting to be a bit too much.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly heavy.   This is a big sweet Imperial Stout.

1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Dec. 2007 bottle: midnight black pour with a quickly diminishing tan colored head. A mix of sherry and tart cherries dominate the aroma, with a surprisingly small amount of roasted barley wavering beneath. The body is thick and chewy, but obviously infected with a sourness that simply ruins everything else. There is a detectable amount of fun tasting chocolates and fudgey notes below, but I can get past the feeling I am drinking something that will make me sick. Shoot, looks like I waited a bit too long on this one. I am rating this only to warn others who have bottles stashed away that it is a good time to pull them out and hope for better results than I got.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from December 2007, thanks to ryan. Rated 3/21/10. Pours a deep inky black with a thin tan head and a bit of lacing. Smells sweet and chocolatey with a strong lactic acid undercurrent. Tastes sweet, acidic and boozy mostly, this bottle must be infected. A tiny bit of roast underneath, but it doesn’t really make it through, very sad.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle thanks to pantanap, my 100th Imperial Stout rating. Pours a dark black color with a medium brown head. A sour aroma; tart cherries, roasted malts, light fruit. A odd, almost bizarre flavor; tartness is overpowering initially, sour cherries and wood, rich roasted malts, cocoa and coffee, salty, a odd brew. Nice though, a interesting brew. I assume the sourness is intentional?

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pitch black. Small brown head.
Oaky, sherrylike sweetish roasted malt dominate aroma.
Sweet and sour flavor, very intense, with notes of grapes and alcohol sweetneess.
Mild carbonation, full bodied, dryish mouthfeel.
A bit too intensely sweet and sour for my taste. Otherwise a very interesting brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2009 Bottled thanks Joey@CigarCity. Very deep brown, close to opaque black dark colour, brown mediumsized head. Aroma is liquorice, alcohol, chocolate oak and ashes with some roast. Also some dark fruits and plummy sweetness. Flavour is very much the same with a quite oily, but still carbonated palate. A bit too sweet for my taste.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Way too much dark fruit for me. Some raisin and maybe even cherry notes. Drier finish than expected. Not quite enough complexity, some chocolate notes and a bit of coffee but you really have to search for it.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
draft at brew kettle - Totally opaque black color with almost non-existant tan head. Aroma is very roasty, with notes of coffee, ash, fair presence of anise, bit yeasty. Flavor is also pretty roasty, but with a fairly solid malty background, bit salty, with ash and a touch of dark chocolate. Finish is actually a bit thin with a mildlyh bitter finish. A good brew, but really doesn’t stand out from the sea of imperial stouts out there.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle thanks to Sliffy. Pours very dark brown with tan ring. Aroma is powerful with roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and molassas. Flavor is loaded with coffee, chocolate, roasted malt with some vanilla and dark fruits. Finishes with a tartness of sour cherries. Smooth on palate with very good mouthfeel. This is a very good imperial stout and one the more complex brews I have had in a while. This is what I hope Bells BB Cherry Stout was going to be. Cheers to Kuhnhenn for an awesome beer and taking chances.
