1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Dec. 2007 bottle: midnight black pour with a quickly diminishing tan colored head. A mix of sherry and tart cherries dominate the aroma, with a surprisingly small amount of roasted barley wavering beneath. The body is thick and chewy, but obviously infected with a sourness that simply ruins everything else. There is a detectable amount of fun tasting chocolates and fudgey notes below, but I can get past the feeling I am drinking something that will make me sick. Shoot, looks like I waited a bit too long on this one. I am rating this only to warn others who have bottles stashed away that it is a good time to pull them out and hope for better results than I got.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Old bottle, not entirely sure how old though. Pours inky black with a light ring of tan bubbles. Aroma is full of roasted malts, some raisins. and some odd acidic component, like balsamic vinegar or something. Kinda dig it. Taste brings chocolate and raisins, to go along with a slight acidic twang. Covers up the high ABV well. Palate is a bit oily and slick. Finish is mostly raisins, with some chocolate in the background. Lingers substantially. Wonder how the tapioca and/or rice contribute to the flavors/texture here. Still such a noob in spite of being here for a while.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle, sent from St. Fun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours jet black with a small beige / tan head. Aroma brings out roasted malt, some sweetness probably from the tapioca, and a little caramel candy. Flavour is quite sweet, with notes of sherry-like liqueur, tapioca, and medium roasted malt. Fairly sweet, though not close to cloying. The 12.5% is very well-concealed, leaving only a warming effect, but no burn. A sweet, very desert like imperial stout that drinks surprisingly easily. Good stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: Bottle at Paulís Blind Imperial Stout tasting, 1/5/13
Aroma:†The nose has some roasted malts, a little booze, fruity notes, and some dustiness
Appearance:†It pours a dark brown-black color with a small tan colored head
Flavor:†It tastes a touch old, but still pretty good, with some roasted malts and boozy flavors
Palate:†This one has a creamy feel, with chalky and dusty notes, and some mild heat
Drinking this blind I actually liked it, despite the fact that it felt a bit old to me. It held up pretty well.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Paulís tasting. Pours near black with a beige head. Light roasted malts, weird dark fruity notes, and some oxidation. Probably a bit old, but the oxidation hasnít completely destroyed it, at least for me.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at Paulís for the Blind Stout tasting. Pours a brown to black with a thin tan head. Big old oxidized roast with a lot of nasty old caramel. Certainly something wrong here, caramel and old sour fruit. Gone sour and weird. Old tart roast and sweetness. Hard to drink.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2nd January 2011
Opaque black beer. Good chocolate coloured head. A little oxidisation on the nose. Softish smooth palate. Rich dark malt with some oxidisation that largely disappears with some agitation. Tangy. Big unsweet dark chocolate. Mild coffee. Subtle fruits - some raspberry and cherry. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Great fully flavoured stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle pours a brown, almost black color, aromas of chocolate, anise, light toast, and a kiss of dark fruit. Flavors follow suit, light bozziness in the aftertaste, decent amount of chocolate and roast flavors, but boozy aftertaste didnít let the flavors linger too long.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle thanks to goryshkewych. Thanks, George! Pours a dark stout brown with a small tan head. Nose is roasted malts all over with some mild coffee, licorice, toast, and an almost fruity quality. Flavor is similar- big roast, earth, and slight licorice with coffee and some light fruit qualities. Medium in body and silky in mouthfeel.
