heemer77 (3632), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 25, 2008 Thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body was medium bronze. A sweet aroma was floral with oak and honey. Plenty of booze were also apparent in the nose. The taste was nasty plastic with some wood. The honey is understated with some weird leather. This gets fairly boozy as it warms up. I wanted to like this one more, but this has some rough edges that hopefully will smooth out with age. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Aug 24, 2007 375mL corked bottle, vintage 2005, drunk on 7/21/07 on Saturday morning at BCTC. Light peach-skin-colored mead with white gold hues and moderately thick legs. Still, clear. The vidal is done tastefully here, and it is immediately noticeable as such, as the nose has only a moderately tart vinousness from the grapes, lending that typical sour peach/grape/nectarine sort of nose, but it is much rounded by the honey notes. Straightforward and only neutral on a dry-to-sweet scale, but very clean and elegant, presenting a lighter mead, with a perfectly displayed, not overdone, pyment character. Alcohol is light on the finish, and there is some spiciness, possibly phenolic activity that adds to the complexity and dryness. Medium-high strength of aroma. Medium-bodied and very drinkable, with very relaxed wine tartness, probably due to the aging on it. Some hints of vanilla and light caramel, but mainly a soft, lemony-crisp grape and alcohol note that is well-balanced by the soft but fairly absorbant honey. Very lasting after finishing, as the tannins and acids build up on the palate over the course of the bottle. Very unique mead, not at all what I was expecting (I thought it was going to be a rather sweet, heavily-wine influenced mead). Great stuff. As far as I’m concerned, Kuhnhenn can’t make bad mead. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 21, 2008 Don’t know why this is labelled as retired since we bought it at the brewery/meadery. This bottled corked mead from the brewey/meadery poured a light orange colored body with no head or carbonation. The nice aroma was honey comb. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of sweet honey and was mildly vinous. A decent one that I would consider buying again. badgerben (3040), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 OSLO and Guerde’s Memorial Weekend Tasting, 5/23/08. Courtesy of OSLO. Gold color. Aroma is a light mixture of clover and wildflower honey. Clover and maple syrup flavors. Light apple and a bit of grape, almost like Pinot Grigo. hotstuff (3038), Indiana, USA Mar 24, 2008 2005 bottle with an ABV of 13% at Fort Wayne Winter Gathering.Transparent and a golden hue. Nose was sweet, honey and floral. The flavor was sweet, honey, floral and dry. Smooth, dry mouthfeel.Quaffable mead, nicely done, very, very nice flavor, would drink this one again. What would a Fort Wayne gathering without thedm and I providing a mead to rate?
