Growler from Kuhnhenn brewery. Fresh hop flavor. Medium whitish tan head. Good mix of flavors.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Immy (1955) - Virginia Beach, USA - OCT 30, 2007
On tap at the Durham WBF. Hazy gold with an off white head. Soft, sweet white grapefruit nose, some woodsy notes, and something like an orange creamsicle? Medium to light body. Orange comes on a bit in the flavor, along with sweet caramel. Very good!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BigBeer45 (1118) - Michigan, USA - OCT 21, 2007
Draft, light to medium amber with gold around the edges, a good covering of a white and off-white head that relaxed to a thin covering,
aroma of citrus and floral hops, some malt, fruit and little sweetness, faint bread fragrance, taste of citrus hops with malt, some malt sweetness,
faint fruit flavor, hops dominated in this all the way to the finish, this pale ale was bordering on being a IPA, the finish was dry with the hop citrus
lingering on the palate, easy to drink, this would be refreshing on a hot Summer day, it is not heavy on the palate, the mouth feel appeared to be a little thin
but could the hops help give that type of a mouth feel?
This pale ale was not over carbonated, anyway, this was a nice drink, I would recommend it.

Light golden-amber with a medium head. Aroma is light and citrusy with some light malt detectable. Flavor is dominated by citrus and light floral hops with a slight caramel/bready malt flavoring. Pretty good overall APA, but not a standout against Kuhnenn’s other offerings.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Silphium (2972) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 18, 2007
On tap at Kuhnhenn. The server stated that this wasn’t the "normal" Loonie Kuhnie pale ale, the translation being that they brewed this in a kettle previously used for a hefeweizen that wasn’t cleaned out properly. So, instead of a traditional pale ale, this was a weird mix of citrusy hops and clove-like esters. I wasn’t impressed.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DrBayern (1139) - Morehead City, North Carolina, USA - JUL 6, 2007
Draft at teh Bew Kettle in Clevleand, 7/3/07. Clear orange with a small white head. Fruity aroma, almost like Juicy Fruit gum, with hints of spice and and light citrus. Medium body with light carbonation. Flavor is headed up by a toffee type sweetness, then followed by a peppery bitterness. Pretty tasty, but with a more of a fruity, estery character than most APAs.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 aracauna (2855) - Georgia, USA - JUL 1, 2007
Very spicy and fruity, almost like spiced, stewed apples. The solid hop bitterness backs up the sweetness. This is an interesting take on the style.

Where other Michigan pale ales are full of hops, this one takes a different stand. A bit fruity, and not nearly as hoppy as I tend to like IPAs. Still, worth the drink.
