From Semibaked on BA - huge thanks! Really nice, extra-strong black IPA. Thick oily pour with a nice creamy tan head. Non-infected! The nose is just lovely, with pineapple and key lime and custard mixing it up with subtle roasts and some dry hops. Similar flavors abound in the big-bodied, smooth drinking beer, but very subtly integrated roasted malts float through to give this beer a really impressive blend of mellowed burnished qualities and bright energy. Terrific.

This wraps up my reviews from the RnH Kuhnhenn event. I got in around 20 ratings, and I still have a ways to go before I try everything these guys have done! This was probably my favorite of the night. A double black IPA, and a superb one too - wow! Unexpectedly sweet, with a roasty, tangy aroma. I tasted orange, cherry, sugars, and esters in with the hops. I totally concur with their description of it btw (above). I hope I don’t have to wait until the next eclipse to try this rich and mighty concoction again.

Tap at Rattle for the Kuhnhenn takeover. Pours black with some brown head. Aroma is malty, coffee, a bit of chocolate. Barely picked up on any hops here. Taste is dry with bitter coffee and caramel. I probably wouldn’t have guessed that this was an IPA, but it was pretty good nonetheless.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Herbal and piney hoppy aroma with light roasted malts. The flavor has piney, earthy, and herbal hops, with roasted malts and a light sweetness. Not bad.

Draft at RnH with Streets, Andrew, and Brendan during the Kuhnhenn Total Tap Takeover Event. Pours a pitch black body with off white lacing. Aroma is light. Mouthfeel is thick and rich with notes of rich caramel malts, fresh hops, and a touch of chocolate roast.

Bottle picked up by my mom at the Winter Solstice event. Served in a Cantillon tulip.
Pour brings a very dark beer with a single-finger light tan head that fades down into a thin collar quickly but leaves a good deal of lacing behind. The nose is a bit off with some cherry and oxidation. Not much of a hop component--maybe some earthy hops in the background. The taste is a bit dry and astringent with some cherry, dark fruits, sweet malt, and a bit of bitterness. Medium body with a dry, slightly-metallic finish. Not terribly drinkable. I would not want to have this again.

Aroma is Chocolate, fruit, earthy. The appearance is black brown. The flavor is chocolate, sweet, earthy. Medium, slightly thick in body. The Finish is resiny hops. Good. Decent example of the style, even if it is more sweet than hoppy.

Similar to a strong ale...ala 9000, albeit hugely dumbed down, and better because of it. Has the fruity esters, anise, clove and spice to accompany the highly resinous hop profile. Tho this may be "dumbed down" like I mentioned, it still becomes cloying and hard to finish.
