3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
20th February 2011
Opaque black beer, small tan head. Milky malt and a little sourness on the nose. Light palate, mild carbonation, slightly dry. Sweet and light dark malt. Aniseed, coca cola and a little chocolate. Some yeast. All joins up seamlessly in to quite a unique beer. Tasty dark treat!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is dark brown in color with a finger or so of tan head.
S: An intensely fruity nose to this beer. Lots of pineapple and fresh orange juice. There’s definitely alcohol present (and not surprising at 11%). The roast and chocolate notes are not as prevalent as in other beers of the style.
T: Very intense tropical fruit flavors to this beer. Pineapple, mango, papaya, grapefruit, and orange give an intense fruitiness and a mild sweetness. Not super bitter, but there is a nice bite to the beer. A mild roasted malt flavor and a bit citric feeling.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: I personally found this to be a fantastic beer. An amazing fruitiness to it, just a little bit on the boozy side.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark fruit and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded almost a standout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I thought an understated imperial stout. Smelled roasty, very balck with brown head. Would pass as a very decent RIS. Not thick, but chocolate, rich malt.Mouthfeel average. Good drinkability. Perfect carbonation.Peter Chiado’s bottle from the brewery.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ home via trade with deyholla, I believe. Thanks! Pours a bit murky black appearance with a dark brown head. Chewy herbal yeasty, dark chocolate, somewhat spicy, minty/piney aroma that really has the house character of the Kuhnhenn yeast. Tangy, orange zesty, fairly citrusy, Belgian chocolate, chewy yeasty, minty, light toffee flavor. Honesty, this tastes pretty strong but is super smooth for the 11% abv. Also, pretty unbelievable that this has held up so well. I’ve had this bottle for near a year and god knows how long deyholla had it before me, but it’s still super tasty.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle, thanks to FlandersNed! Cap reads 11-10... 3 yr old Black IPA, we’ll see how this goes. Very dark brown, almost black color. Thin off-white, light brown head. Leaves plenty, thicker, dotty lace. Big body. Lightly sticky in the finish, light drying though. Smooth, lighter, lightly soft carbonation. Not too difficult to sip. This is surprisingly not bad, for the age, actually pretty tasty. Like a big black barleywine. Hop is pretty much just an earthy, lightly piney muddled character, but there’s a lot of good bitter taste to counter balance the malty sweetness. Very nice big heavy roast malt aroma that lasts long into the finish, some licorice, hint of dark chocolate. Solid imperial stout -like characteristics. Some bite in the finish if more than small sip is taken. Overall, better than expected, and a very interesting (and rare) experience that I’m happy to have had. Would have been interesting to try this fresh, though..

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from the tap at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured near black with a light brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had a slight pine note with dark grain and a bit of spice. Flavor began with some dark grains, a bit of spice and a bit of backing pine hop to round out the beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012-11-16. Dark brown body with a nice tan head. First smell of ethanol blows off, sweet fruity malt, alcohol. Flavour is similar, sweet malt, sugar, herbal character, warming alcohol. 7+ Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate. Pretty decent, but just a bit too boozy for my preference.
