Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with no head whatsoever. Aroma has a good amount of alcohol with some sweet honey and a bit of backing dry wine. Flavor begins with sweet honey and is joined by dry wine with a hint of backing alcohol that warms your throat.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MasterSki (8) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 29, 2011 does not count
Bottle says 2008, but I think was released in 2010 after two years in oak.
A - Transparent amber-red body. Very attractive color - some nice legs.
S - Quite sweet - I see why Andrew says Kool-Aid, even if that’s not the first thing that would have came to mind for me. There’s some fruity red wine mingling with the more conventional sweet honey flavors. As it warms there’s a hint of oak and alcohol.
T - Taste is a little more vinous, oaky, and tannic, with less overt sweet mead flavors and more of the Meritage elements shining through. Alcohol is better hidden here.
M - Tannic, oaky, and dry. Medium body, with a viscous and chewy texture. Light alcohol warming, but nothing untoward.
D - I liked this a lot - it’s a nice red wine oriented mead that’s pretty easy to drink and never grows fatiguing like some of Kuhnhenn’s other offerings. I’m glad I have another bottle of this one, as it should pair nicely with a future meal.

Thanks to blutt59 and thirdeye11 for going in with me on 16 Kuhnhenn meads. This was part of an epic 20 mead tasting.
2008 vintage. Pours a deep red color/ The aroma is heavy on the berries, although I am not sure which berries I am smelling. I also get a lot of red wine notes in the aroma. The flavor tastes like very dry red wine with some honey added to it. Medium mouthfeel.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Cavie (3382) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - SEP 8, 2011
Bottle courtesy the great mead trade of 2011. (thirdeye11, blutt59, mora2000.) 2008 batch. Pours a very clear reddish pink color. No carbonation. Aroma is clay, light fruit, wood and alcohol. Flavor is mix of sweet and sour, dry wine and grapes with a huge tingle. Quite dry on the finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JaBier (3729) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Bottle brought back by Dogbrick. Thanks man! Dark red pour with no carbonation and moderate legs. Grapey red wine nose with honey and a lot of sweet dark fruit notes. Flavor was a bit in contrast to that, with a lot of booziness and dryness to go along with the honey and dark fruit.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Tmoney99 (8773) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 28, 2011
GTMW 2011. Poured clear dark reddish copper color with good legs. Heavy grape, honey and small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a thick smooth texture. Medium to heavy dark fruit and honey flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate duration. Pleasing smooth alcohol burn. Standout mead.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 flatmatt (869) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - AUG 6, 2011
6 oz bottle. A still mead, red amber in color. Aromas of white bread, honey, red grape juice, somewhat toasty. Flavor has honey and white bread, rather sweet, with red grape. Not quite a syrupy palate, this is on the thinner side of that. I definitely like it.
